I'm looking into making a more historical kit I already have stick jock armor so it's just for fun. It will be out of leather but atleast the basic idea can be right.
I saw Alice In Wonderland last night, the Tim Burton version.
I thought the CGI in general was pretty amazing but I really liked the white soldiers. Do you know of any historical armor like it? My historical armor knowledge is limited to what I've wiki'd and read on these boards. anyway here's an example, I'm thinking no, since it would take less metal to make legs and I think full legs would be more protective anyway.

It's the white soldiers in the back ground on the first picture or in the white on the second. These are literally the only pictures on google images.

It could be some weird crack dream of plate armor, which is pretty much 14th c. and later. I don't know much about it.

So, do you actually want to DO a historical kit? Or just make cracked out armor you saw in a movie? I'm confused?

I'm thinking I'm just gonna roll with making the usual breastplate and helm with pauldrens for the top and go with the same skirt idea they used. But if there is a accurate historical armor that looks anything like that, I would prefer to make it instead. Even if it's like chinese or something.

Hard to tell from those blurry images, but it looks like a mashup of gothic from the waist up and Japanese below...???

So, you want to make a historicly accurate version of fanasty armor. Easy.
Make it up.
I think those suit look like a lanschet armor drawn by a computer geek for a fantasy movie.

I have never heard of lanschet (lan-shay?) armor. Landsknecht armor, maybe? Then, yeah, I'd totally agree with you.
More specifically, those white clad dudes (I haven't seen the movie) are wearing tassets at their waists, and winged pauldrons, which are characteristic of Landsknecht period armor.
But yeah, just make it up. There is a ton of embellishment here, so you might as well.

Speaking of winged pauldrons, has anyone ever worn besagews? how do those even attach to an armor kit? I have a few ideas, but I'd like to be historically accurate, if I can.

Every example I've seen just hang from a strap attached to the pauldron (or gorget). The challenge lies in keeping the besagew from interfering when the arm is lifted or moved across the chest...

meh, not really. In all honesty's sake, I actually thought you actually meant a type of armor that I had never heard of before. It was only at a passing secondary glance that I considered that it might a misspelling, and I really don't two **** about that. My bad~!

Not a 400 year old German? From all I've heard of you from trembling survivors here in the Wild West, you seem to be the modern reincarnation of Pier Gerlofs Donia;
"a tower of a fellow as strong as an ox, of dark complexion, broad shouldered, with a long black beard and moustache. A natural rough humorist, who through unfortunate circumstances was recast into an awful brute. Out of personal revenge for the bloody injustice that befell him (in 1515) with the killing of kinsfolk and destruction of his property he became a freedom fighter of legendary standing"

Thanks for the input on Besagews- I'm still debating putting a pair on my cuirass...

Actually, Forkbeard, Landsknecht is a 540 year old German word.

http://www.landsknecht.com/html/history.html

http://www.landsknecht.com/ wrote:
The term "Landsknechte" was first coined by Peter von Hagenbach, recorder for Charles the Bold of Burgundy. The term Landsknecht translated literally means "servant of the country" and first began appearing in the German language in approximately 1470. The term applied to the mercenary soldiers of the areas of Alsace, Baden Wurttemburg, Austrian Tyrol, and other numerous countries in what is today Northern Germany. These soldiers served their countries in military service under the Holy Roman Emperors Maximilian I, Charles V, Ferdinand, and Maximilian II.
