Leather is lightest and cheapest, but can be constricting until it's broken in and tends to be sweaty in hot weather. Chain is more expensive, heavier, but less likely to guve you heatstroke; the weight, however, takes some getting used to.

Don't even bother with plate; it's like combining the above two, and then some. It looks nifty, but people will call you a rhino when you don't feel their hits through it.

General attitude is that leather wins, but for those of us who don't want to look like everyone else, chain is a viable alternative.

I think leather is the choice of most. Flexible, durable, cheap(er), and according to belegarth rules provides just as much protection as plate or chai
I think chain is kinda popular too.

Oh, and ehellen ROCKS!!!!! :D

-Tight but a little overdone, not to mention most of them are not allowed on the field "spikes." Good for feast though if you got a lot to spend...

-More simple armor, a bit cheaper and resembles the Riders of Rohan armor in LOTR

-Websites upgrading right now should have some good stuff later...

king's Lance is a great armor shop. Not much for leather, but still great.

King's Lance sells pretty much crap. It's all Indian-made, most of it is grossly inaccurate or based of patterns stolen from SCA armorers (of course, since India doesn't have a copyright treaty with the US, it's legal for them to do) and it won't fit well. If you want plate armor and want it cheap, go here:

Armour and Castings

This is a Ukrainian armourer who does good work at very low prices (since stuff is cheaper in the Ukraine) and, if you order from him, the pieces will be made FOR YOU, TO YOUR MEASUREMENTS--not off-the shelf, made new when you place your order. I highly recommend this armoury for plate armour.
