Still working on my first leather helm. Real life work is building up and I find my free time dwindling down like sands in a hour glass. It is a more traditional Corinthian Helm with modern influences. Patterns seem to work well and there is a nice tight uniform feel about the helm. All I need do is finish the rivets and she'll be completed. Overall, I'm very pleased with it, but will always improve in the future! Open for comments and/or criticisms.
I've already begun and nearly at the same step fpr my next piece, a strongly theatrical influenced Spartan helm, painted bronze and I feel really proud of. I should have that one finished early next week and will post pics as soon as I complete it. The next helms are already patterned out and set on the plate: A very period viking helm, a authentic kabuto, a vicious skull face, a really fantasy valkyrie helm, and by special request-a monstrous bugbear helm.
As soon as I finish any and all these pieces I'll post pics for you guys to digest. I'm really excited about this lineup.
Yep. Hence the still in progress. I remove the bolts and replace with rivets one by one, then give it a once over with some polish, and a beauty she'll be! Also, I got your brig working, I'll bring all the patterns laid out and sides laced up so you can see how it'll look,Judas. Overall, I think the brig will be very nice. I hope you wear it to war of the roses deux!
Thank you Lord Magpie! Coming from someone of your calibur of experience with leather armor I consider that a great compliment! BTW,im working on a design also for some medieval sunglasses. You got me jonesin' for some. Is that cool?
By all means, make more leather sunglasses/goggles....
.... but seriously, don't call me Lord. I don't know what I'm doing with leather, and I'm only a skirmisher guard for the Clan of the Hydra. Kayle is my lord.
Honestly, you seem to be able to do more with leather than I can.
If you were being sarcastic in your comment (since I post a lot but don't have much skill), then I just feel stupid.
I actually was addressin one craftsman to another! No sarcasism whatsoever,I've seen some of your work and its very impressive. And I thank you again for the compliments, my chosen medium is steel, but I wanted to try some leather for a change!
Thank you very much, debuenzo.
And yes, I do plan on sellings helms like these, but this is more of a prototype. I hope to really perfect the patterns and make them very efficient.
I still have 5 more varieties I plan on making so I hope everyone gets a chance to see them all for deciding on one they like, but I'm always open to suggestion on styles that people like. As far as selling this one, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, considering just donating it to a worthy cause!
And Leonidas,btw-you must have some real tars to pick that name-big shoes to fill! If you liked this one I know you'll love the next one, the Spartan !
Yeh thats the modern theatrical influence I was referring to. It has the traditional eyes and face profile of the corinthian but overlaps insteads of underlapping like the historical Corinthian. I also used influences from the Valsgaurde 7 helm from swedish viking days. Thanks everyone for the compliments, I'm finishing the helm as I type this...more pics to come!
Very nice work, son.
I'm sooo happy to see the large numbers of people that are getting into armor making.
Keep it up.
I'm gonna check out the new thread you put up about your next helmet now.

Warlord of the Western Uruk-Hai
Don't call it a comeback I been here for years Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear
Yeh I plan on making a helm with a standard top, chain drape back wrap, and a skull front. Similar to the style popularly worn by members of the Urik-hai. While I dont and will not copy their unique style, I do want to make a piece with the same ferocity. Before I start the piece though, I will petition the fathers of the Urik-hai to ask their opinion and/or objections. A good craftsman is an honest craftsman.
In a side note, I've been browsing the Urik-hai website, and they look very awesome. I'm considering following Judas' advice and possibly if they allow it, joining that unit. They have all the structure and discipline I love in combat along with the unity and conformity of a mass unit. I still hope to remain a member of the Dun Abhon, but would be interested in parading their colors into battle. Still, this is all just daydreaming floatin around the old noggin, but still has me excited.
Yeh the Kabuto should be something awesome. I've made 3 of those in my career: 2 for sca clients and one for my son for his 4th christmas. ( that boy loves combat and armor, suprising huh?)
Once I have progress on the Kabuto and its nearing completion, it will need a good home. Maybe we could discuss a trade, Lodian, of some of your fine bracers you make. They are a very original and I feel truely crafty line!
And thank you Lord Forkbeard! Your work is truely awesome and to get a compliment from someone I consider to be greatly experienced in the field is humbly flattering! Thank you again!
