Ravager Armor

Postby Gambit Redband » Fri Jun 19, 2009 1:30 pm

I'm getting promoted at Oktoberfest so it's time for some green armor. I'm drawing up the pattern now but I need some help on the shoulders. I've been told that Thraka's style shoulders would look good on me, but I can't find any pictures of him in his armor. Can anyone post a pic or draw up a replica of his pauldrons?

I did send Thraka a PM, by the way. Waiting for a response.

I was never a fan of his Pauldrons. They just never looked quite right to me. But a few of the other Ravagers had them too. I think Bain might have been one of them.

Under my promotion fight, I'm fighting Bain who has similar Pauldrons.

Now I see what they mean. I'm toying around with a few different designs right now but thanks a lot for the pictures!

Zeroek, if you are interested in the Uruk-Hai you should find us at a national event and ask some questions. We would be more than happy to spar you or let you roll with us for a unit battle or two. I will be at Oktoberfest if you'd like to meet up.

yeah the helm is sweet unfortunately it's not his. It belongs to Vorn who I might add is bigger and somehow makes the helm that much more intimidating when he where's it =P

I don't even want to begin on how long it took him to make. the whole top part is made of strips of leather that were braided together.

The face plate is made of barely armor grade leather, and it's padded with pipe insulating foam. it's not the tubes of foam, it comes on a roll and it's adhesive on one side.

His helmet or not, that guy's armour is * fine. The hottest non-erotic work of leather I've seen.

I was merely giving credit where credit was due, the only piece of armor that's his is the torso even the skirt belongs to Vorn.

* it. The armour is very well done, but it's the skirt that tipped the balance for me. Still the whole suit looks mad together. Do this guy and Vorn often share clothing?

I really like that Helmet.
We need to get an armor gallery going on the Uruk boards. People seem to think most of have the regular armor. At least that what it sounds like when they talk to us out here about our crazy armor. There is really some diverse and cool armour in our ranks.
Now about shoulders. I wouldn't attach them to the torso like those. They are hinged right to the shoulder area and only move up and down. If you hang them on short straps, they can move ANY direction with your arm. You'll be able to move more freely and when you do youre arm won't peek out of your armor. This willsave your shoulder from good fighters.
If you are a red fighter, you will hate those shoulders within the space of one fight.
Congrats on your Rank. Kick * in your trial.

Thanks for the encouragement, Forkbeard. If you don't mind, I'd like to take a look at some of your armor designs or other Ravager styles in the West just to get me thinking. Can you post a few visual aids?
Because I am 6' 2" and 160 lbs my Ravager set is going to look a lot leaner than most of my comrades. That's why I'm looking to use more "non-traditional" styles.
I have already included the detail about the shoulders from examining Orso's armor. A short strap doubled back on itself seems to lend the most mobility.
And if any of you saw my new greaves at Spring Wars, I plan on incorporating some of the same flairs into the body armor as well.

Here's my armor advce:
Make good, working patterns out of posterboard. You can fold duct tape in half longways and make strap material. Use those brass brads they use on paper and a paper punch to rivet it all together. If you make a peice of armor this way and it works, it will work when you make it out of leather. Never make anything without trying it out in posterboard.
Make your ravager armor hung on straps, not hard rveted together. Everything except maybe the lower torso. I would even strap this. Strap suspension will make it flexible and breathable(cooler). It also makes it easy to take apart if you have to fix something.
Don't be afraid of etra holes. Everybody mounts **** in the wrong place. Unless you are a pro armorer and are selling something, you can have a couple extra holes in your armor. It's better to have it fit right and wor better. No one will notice your extra holes. If they are way visible, put a braid of leather or something decorative through them. It'll look like you meant to do it.
Store it in the shape you want to be be. If you store it in a bag under some other ****, it'll get all misshapen and not feel right to wear. If you store it hanging up and filled with some stuff that simulates the way it sits on your *. It will always fit right and eventually it will hold this shape even without hardening.
I got's no pic's for you just now, but it sound like you're doin fine.
Just try to make it look COOL.

Talic's armor is pretty awesome. Though he's a chieftain. You could ask him about some armor stuff. I used it for a while and it was really comfy and flexible. If you gained about 50lbs in muscle, I think you can use his dimensions too lol. But on Geddon.org....there's Madog's armor tutorial that's pretty nifty. It's got pics and everything.

Quick question, Can I see a good pic of some Ravager armor. I need to see how you hook the chest piece to the belly pieces, and are the back peices just flat leather, w/o a design??
