Back Banner

Wasn't sure where to post this but seems appropriate.

Does anyone know how to go about making a back banner?

I've seen the Uruk-Hai wear theses into battle per videos and pictures.
Been wanting to make a safe back banner and theses guys look like they got the right idea.
Looking some some construction help and how to attach it to the back.

Solid advice is much appreciated.

PM Sir Cairbre, he should know, or have a tutorial on how to construct one.

I watched one get constructed. It's pretty easy.

Since there are no rules governing it specifically, flex and whatnot isn't as important. Use PVC, joints are fine since your not hitting anyone with it...and just pad it with haft padding and cloth tape. You could of course probably use bamboo, or fiberglass, but since under normal circumstances there won't be any stress put on it, PVC is fine.

Make any ends pommel safe so if by chance it does hit someone in the face it doesn't go into an eye, but other than that treat it like its haft padding on a glaive and your golden.

It's attached to the back with two buckles on the armor. The bottom buckle should have a bottom piece to prevent it from sliding through. I don't know if all of them are, but the one i got a close look at was.

Go wild.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.
I was mostly stumped about securing it to my armor.

I've for sure got a better idea of how to craft one of theses things now. I have no idea why I didn't think about using PVC joints.

Helpful as always Uruk-Hai, thanks again guys.

The way you grapple and spin around, you might want to pad the end with a spear head.

I was planning on making a well padded skull for the top. Trying to make it look like a trophy kill pole. It's just going to be used for warcalling Az, so no worries about getting impaled of bashed...by my back flag at least.

I believe v'hils was secured to his armor with a couple of leather bands that threaded through the leather of his armor and then snapped over the pole above and below a section of padding. You should be able to see it better if you zoom on the shaft. in that picture.

You could look into something similar to this as the attachment point for the bottom of the flag:

Image

It's designed for holding a flag while marching. My guess is that you could probably fashion something like this out of leather and integrate it into your armor. You would need something higher up on the back in order to stabilize the back flag and keep it from tipping over but that could be something as simple as a piece of leather riveted to the armor with a gap to allow the flag pole to go through.

I'm pretty sure V'hils is a 3/8 fiberglass rod, padded like the pommel end of a javlin. At least the one I saw was. It's very safe.
I think I want one.

Yes, we are a wholy indepentant army from the Eastern Uruks. Soo Ma Tai, Myself, Magnuis and Slagg are the high commanders. We also have a council of VIP's who vote on all of our major decisions.
We are the same type of force, we apply that force diferently.
Mostly the difference is location. People from the west spen the majority of their event time out here, same with people from the east. Both armies apply the same joining policy. ie You can't join outside of events. No on can join at practice. Since western paople don't go to eastern events where eastern Orc's are, they can't join them, it was decided that a western army would be a great way to have an evil army on both ends of the counrty.
I've never had a back flag becuase I've never been hard to spot on the field.
All the **** archers already seem to be able to see me.

My new buckler is 3' across and about 2' high. :fingers:
It only works with the spear, but I don't care. I like spear better anyway.
I wonder if I had a back flag it would draw fire up towards it. Visual **** does that sometimes. That would be nice. I could USE the helmet.
Last year at Chaos I actually got shot by 4 arrows at one time. **** 4. In the torso from different directions.

The obvious solution is to make two or three copies of your armor and give them to other large guys on your team and play "Who's the real Forkbeard?"

Finished my chaos back banner. Ended up making a cups at the bottom of each side of my torso and a middle strap on each side as well. Fairly pleased, they look ballin and are relatively easy to fight in. Plus they can be pulled off when I don't want to use them.

I would say it's in the possibly near future. Too rad not to rape with them.
