Woven leather armor

Postby Woif » Sun May 16, 2010 9:53 pm

I'm looking to start making some of my own armor, but I want to make sure it'll be legal before spending money on it.

My first question is Does woven leather armor count?

Look just at the interwoven leather strips, not the shoulders or helm.

My other questions is Do hanging leather straps count? Such as on a roman war skirt like this one

Yes, as long as they meet the thickness & layering rules.

The second question is likewise yes, assuming it meets the thickness rules. Keep in mind, however, that if you get hit in a gap in the strips, you can't call armor.

Translation: If each strip is >7oz in thickness AND there are no portions of the armor where the thickness drops below two layers of leather overlapping (no single-layer regions), it will likely pass.

The warskirt will pass and will actually be useful to you on the field if you make it like an actual pteruges skirt: Do two layers of 12+ oz leather and stagger the strips, so that there won't be significant gaps in your coverage.
