I realize that the rules state that maille needs to be made of 'period' materials and normally I wouldn't bother asking, but I was wondering if one where to do an inlay on the armor in question, would it have to be in period as well.
As for specifics, I plan on making a maille vest out of 14 ga. (AWG) 1/4 in. galvy rings, and was planning on doing an inlay of the HoRdE symbol on the chest. I am hoping to do the inlay in either Dark Rose or Green Anodized Niobium as soon as I figure out whether or not those rings would be strong enough to last as actual armor. If it isn't then in order to do it in color I have to go with Anodized Titanium which I am sure is strong enough, but is lighter.
As far as using said piece of armor as armor in the sport would that kind of thing be allowed, as the majority of the armor would be in period materials? If not, could someone tell me whether bronze, brass, or copper would be a better pick for me for strength and color sticking out from the galvy?
