First Torso - feedback & suggestions

Postby Isk » Mon Nov 01, 2010 11:11 pm

Finished this just before Samhain, tried it out, broke some straps, but liked it. I fought in it all last week at practice and really liked the way it moves for me. I am debating putting my unit insignia on it or some other embellishment or just leaving it plain. Anyway, feedback, likes, hates, whatever. Let me know what you think of how it all fits together and how I might tweak, improve or otherwise trick it out.

Holy **** am I into that coloring. Looks pretty awesome. You should leave it plain, although some other scrappy wear n' tear effects would be cool.

Nice work, bro. I like it.
Put some big sword scars on it and some holes like from arrows.
It looks brutal

Looks great, and good body coverage. How mobile is the torso? Can you bend over and touch your toes? Not that you'd be doing it much anyway, but it would make that some amazing armor if you could.

I've found that there's a fine line between torso armor covering the hips and being able to move the torso very effectively. The overlapping plates design seems like they would just slide over each other, giving you a great range of motion.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Yes, I can touch my toes. That is the limit it starts to bind at, though. Most of the time it impedes my movements less than chain, but right at the end of reaching to pick up a sword or jav it starts to resist and reminds me I have it on.

To finish it, I'll add some 'authentic battle damage' then. I am thinking I do want to put my unit insignia on it, either on the main chest piece or on the spaulders. Oh and Ingvar, I dyed it in a tub of vinagaroon and rit black fabric dye because I didn't have enough Fiebings on hand. I actually really like the way the it turned out, too.
