The air shouldn't be a problem, although if your leather piece is natural/unfinished you will notice it darkening considerably, but it'll go back to it's usual color after a couple of days.
Do be careful about the salt water though, it does mess up the leather in weird ways (leather soaked in salt water can curl and/or wrinkle after drying).
