EDITED: Plague doctor mask Helm variation

Postby Shaka Stomp » Thu Jan 13, 2011 8:53 pm

I want a helm with this look without the huge * beak.
Does anybody have any ideas of how to make it work?
I was thinking pointing the beak strait down, or at an angle.
Any ideas or comments?

Like any armor project, build your template out of cardstock first to make sure it fits and moves the way you want it too. Your picture looks like it's mostly triangle shaped pieces. I'll tell you one thing, people give you clearance when you've got 18 inches of beak pointed at their face. Here's my template that I used for a halloween costume, just to help you brainstorm.

I'm working on a second one that'll have garment leather stitched over it. It won't be armor grade, but I plan to only wear it as a night time costume piece. Too bad they're gonna be everywhere for a couple years thanks to Assassin's Creed. I think Sieg made one that's meant for fighting in.

Protip: Think about how you're going to breathe and talk in it.

Dang that Assassin's Creed!
Yeah this would be my first armor piece design so thanks for the tip about the card stock.

At that length.
I didn't think the beak would be legal.

3.4. Armor may not have protrusions that rise more than 1/2 inch from the surface.

What does this rule mean?

It's kind of worded funny, but in this case the beak is the armor; it's not a protrusion. A protrusion would be more like a spike.

Wow!
That is perfect!
I was thinking that was a bit odd.
That is awesome.

Thanks for the clarification.
