layering leather

Postby NessiePop » Mon Jan 17, 2011 11:42 pm

So, I've recently come into possession of a metric **** of 10 oz leather. Now, as we all know, 10 oz leather by itself is useless. I wanna layer it to make myself some armor. For this to work, I need an adhesive to put the two layers together. Anybody have any ideas on the best product for this particular application? And I'd really love it if it wasn't some sort of special glue that ships from Borneo and is made of powdered diamonds. Thanks in advance!

It's not quite an answer to what you were asking, but I completely recommend artificial sinew and a leather awl. Or rivets.

Or you could make lamallar. Scales, by their nature, are always doubled up. You would only need a hole punch and alot of string. I'd use at least 3/32" nylon cord.
For bracers and greaves I would sew the 2 layers together, not glue. Glue only makes **** heavier.

Kewl. Means I don't to buy anything today. Fork, do you have a basic pattern for individual scales? I could probably get it right by trial and error, but just once, I'd like my first attempt at something not end up in the trash.
