Hey, I just posted a new instructable on how to make a Mandrel. It's step-by-step so it should be pretty easy. I figure I'll also translate it to geddon.org when I get the chance next week to.

The link worked for me about an hour before Caleidah posted that the link was broken. I tried the link after he posted, and it was broken. I have only been getting white screen from that link ever since.

Okay, think I may have found the problem. I edited a couple things but I never re-published it. Should work now. If not, I'll just d/l the pdf and post it to the Wiki.

Grim, if you're in Milwaukee like your profile says, how come I didn't see you at Rhun Closer?

Two reasons. Firstly, I haven't been fighting for a while, so I didn't know about it. Secondly, I was in Cedar Rapids over that event for the Army. That whole Army thing might get in the way of WPO too, i'll be in CR again from the 31st to the 18th. Oh yeah, and i'm also in Waukesha, which is even closer to Madison.

I totally agree. When they changed the interface it made it really hard to find anything. Plus, there's so many ads now.

Cool tut.

Question: Why attach the wire with the vice grips instead of drilling a wire-width hole in the 3/8" dowel and run the wire through that to hold it in place? I do that with mine (5/8" dowel and 14 ga wire) because I don't want to think about or make room for the vice grips spinning around.

I thought about that actually, but I figured I would just get it stuck in the hole when I coiled it. Also, drillig a hole in a tiny cylinder with no vice in my wife's kitchen is not a smart idea. Good to know it does work though. I havent put the "future improvements" page on it yet. That will probably go on it with a few others I have in mind.

It works just as well; I certainly understand not wanting to drill without the proper set up though. When I do mine, I just barely put it through (maybe 1/8" protruding) and it holds in place once the coil starts. If it's particularly tight against the dowel, I just squeeze a pair of pliers against the end of the wire and the opposite side of the dowel and push the wire through; snip clean with my wire cutters.
