Fitz's Armor Log

Postby Fitz Caliston » Mon Feb 14, 2011 7:51 pm

I liked how Burke made a single post to keep updating his stuff, I intend to do that here:

First up, just finished Nidalaps armor:

Video of him playing in it this weekend:

Facebook Albumn with the rest of the pics:

Just entered this in my Amtgard Kingdoms Dragon MAster and Got Best in show with a 4.74 out of 5.

Finish Silvers Armor a week or so ago. Here he is at the park, some of the few pics I got of him wearing it. His shorts cover up the knees and he didn't have the suspenders tightened up enough on the kidney belt (his first time putting the set on, but you get the idea:

This is a rig I was comissioned for by an Amtgarder back east who was sick of having his weapons destroyed and being left weaponless. All the scabbards are modular/removable (the backpack is 1 unit) in case he wants to move them around or loan them out to friends.

actually, that's me wearing the gloves, I was in the proces of dying leather and just put on my tunice because I hate modeling gear in mundane clothes.

Right after these pics were taken i took off the tunic and went back to crafting.

So... he wasn't exaggerating? I wanted to try Amtgard this year, though to my relief they mostly ditch in FL. (Would have tried it sooner if not for verbal magic - still think being a Wizard is baller)

Not exaggerating at all. The only time I play a Battlegame in Amt with 1-2 weapons is when I'm playing a caster. Otherwise I have at least 3 weapons and sometimes as many as 5 (plus throwies and arrows, I never go on the field with less then 12 arrows if I'm arching).

When this comission contacted me and stated that he'd seen my rigs and wanted me to make my own "dream monk/assasin rig" I said "alright, first how many weapons do you own?... (he told me) ... Ok I'll make a scabbard for every one of them to be worn, oh and you should make yourself a polearm to start with... or a couple longswords..."

The Local Paper in Nevada asked for a group pic of Armored players for thier story this weekend at Daragon Blade War, ask Talon Blackwolf said on facebook this is a good year catalogue pic for Caliston Armory, though there are a few others pieces in ther as well, noteably a Helm by Forkbeard and Burkes first armor set:

Something subtle that you should do for your strapping... Cut a belt hole through and tuck the ends of the straps behind the plate before you rivet. It looks cleaner that way.

I've used that technique before, it can work rather well. Though it can have bad consiquences if you have to re-position strapping as the wearer breaks in the set....and being that I've generally got very short periods of time to do fittings/adjustments ....

that's part of the adjustments I have to do, the shoulder straps on the torso hardened in such a way that they are 2 inches higher and not resting on his shoulders, then the pauldrons flatened a bit more then needed making them float oddly like that. I need to re-wet them and let them settle.

It's one of the follys of drying on a form instead of the actual person it's being made for.

Almost completed comission for Laoric in Boise. Just gotta add another Lame to the pauldrons this week and this set will be done. He already has bracers and greaves and didn't want the set hardened.
