New junk for my SCA kit:

According to people on the Armor Archive, my accidental placement of the seams on the bone-edges of my forearm instead of the meat edges means I should sell these to a non-SCA fighter and make a new set.

Oh well.

These turned out good, at least:

Need to slap some dye on 'em.

All water hardening done HotW-style (170°F oven).

These are awesome, how long have you been crafting leather?

Also, where do you get your leather from?

Yeah, bummer on the seams, but they are right. That's about the worst place to get hit besides the inside of the arm in the same place (bone edge).
Looks like nice solid work though. I'd like to see them finished.

There are seams on both of those spots. I failed at cutting my mold off of my arm in the right places.

Such is life.

What do you mean "finished"? They're hardened, dyed, sealed... I've actually got internal elastic closures on them right now; if I'm just using them in bel or selling them for such use, they really don't need much more buckling than that...

Guess I should ask what leather you use, then, I've seen that site before,
and some of the leather there is expensive.

You know what, I'm gonna just go ahead and refer you to your local armor guys in Wolfpack. Seriously? Leather is a commodity. It is worth money.

Interesting, pardon me for having a limit to what I would like to pay on cowhide.

Thing is, if I want to make makeshift *whatever* I can get pieces/scraps of leather for 5 bucks at a craft store. (3-5 pounds of them) They may not be the greatest quality, but I can, seriously.

I asked because the last time I checked, I'm fairly certain I saw small amounts of leather for over 150 dollars. Excuse me for not wanting to pay that kind of money.

Tandy LEather Saddle Skirting, look for sales on sides and 1/2 sides.

Arrakis, I mean the demi-gaunts, not the vambraces.

Ooohhh, that makes sense, Soo.

Xan: You've read the armor rules, right? You know you can't make makeshift whatever out of <7 oz scraps and still have it pass as armor?

I'm pretty sure I never said "armor" specifically.

I know you probably haven't seen this thread, but, here I state what my
purposes for my leather working *right now* consists of. (masks/belts/straps and other miscellaneous items.)

viewtopic.php?f=107&t=37752

I could've missed this in the Armor section, but that rule wouldn't make
sense to me? What about a layered shoulderpad? That is made up of
parts, which either have to be very thick, or very large to be over 7oz.

The only way that rule could fit is if the shoulder guard HAD to be attached
to the armor, which for some sets doesn't make sense.

Two layers of 7oz leather would work.

I can't remember but its 3/16" for leather to pass, which is either 12 or 13oz i can never keep it straight.

Is that for *armor* or for both armor *and* miscellaneous?

You can't wear "miscellaneous" unless it's clearly not armor.

Please, God, go talk to people in your realm about this ****. Wolfpack does mean Wolfpack of the High Plains, right?

So, you're telling me that the leather masks that are worn, boots, and belts are somehow mistakable for armor?

2.3. Miscellaneous Equipment includes, but is not limited to, items such as: belts, pouches, boots, and non-Armor clothing and headwear.

You tell me what person is gonna make boots out of broadcloth, then maybe I'll consider making a pair.

You're basing your entire standpoint in this discussion on *assumptions* of
what I'm doing. I can see now that you obviously just like being
condescending, based on how you reply, I'll refrain from asking you any
more questions.

Arrakis, quit being a douchey **** and untwist your panties. The kid was asking questions and you **** all over him for no reason.

Xanthus, feel free to start a new thread if you want to ask more questions about leather working.
