Kidney Belt - need some advice

I'm working on a Kidney belt and the buckles seem to be kicking me in the nuts on how to do them properly. the leather is 10-12oz stuff what do you recommend for straps for leather and a particular buckle type?

first time I've really strapped leather using buckles and first time I've made a kidney belt...as a heads up.

Either D-shaped or economy buckles from the Leather Factory work well. If you can find some place that sells 8.5"x11" sheets of tooling leather (I believe it's 4-5oz) that's what I always use. My kidney belt has 2 buckles running parallel across the front.
