Leather brig/Xiao brig ideas.

So I used the search function and saw a couple of pics of this brig. I'm getting ready to make some and I would like to see some more styles and designs using this method. If anyone has made this recently it would be awesome if you could post a pic or two so I can get some more ideas.

Here's a war skirt I made this past winter/spring.

In my experience, you should rivet your leather plates into their pockets. It cuts down on their movement/wearing through the cloth, and it adds some weight to it so you don't feel like a scumbag.

The rivets also make it look better and people won't think you're a scumbag with minimum passing armor

Yea I was thinking of making a skirt, but it will go down past my knees an inch or two, to cover the gap behind my knees that the greaves don't cover. Also, the only parts of my armor that will be brig is the torso and the skirt, everything else will be regular leather. I don't really like the look of the rivets though.

I already looked at that thread Solusar. I made this one to see if anyone had any new designs of things. Xiao made the japanese armor, so I was trying to see if people made any other types of designs with the pocket brig.

Some older brig I made. Since then I've kind of taken a few different routes with it.

Some tips.
1. Don't try and sew little squares, think in lines and it will make things much easier.
2. Measure like six thousand times before you sew, your stuff will look better for it. Dont forget the pockets take up space so it should be wider than you think you need, not by much but a little.
3. Make sure your leather is thick enough consistently throughout the piece, i mean, you could skimp in the middle but it looks bad and honestly you should want this to look sexy.
4. Belt Loops for skirts/tassets = Yes.
5. Don't let anyone give you **** about your armor. It passes, it looks good. **** em'. You're a Ninja!

Here's a piece of thigh armor modeled after the armor piece the Kurgan was wearing when he fought against Ramirez--

The base is 9 oz belly leather with squares and straps of 9-12 oz belly. The piece is designed to wrap loosely around the thigh, and connect to the belt with buckled straps, allowing one to adjust the armor elevation to their personal level of comfort.



What it will look like on the outside edge. I put a lining of buffalo leather on the bottom edge so it doesn't chafe the leg, and so it looks more professionally done. The brig plates are riveted on with steel rivets, and then set with a dab of pressed Elmer's so that some overzealous * can't work his finger under a plate and fail it.

I made this as just an experiment of what I could do with all the belly leather I have lying around- My local Tandy's had a sale- and because the original idea to copy the Kurgan's armor came to me from Dyre of Salamandastron, and it was her birthday last week!~
