Scrap Armor

I know this leather is too thin to qualify as Bel Armor, but I found it relevant to post in the correct forum.

This armor came about from a past co-worker of mine. She bought some scrap leather on sale at the closing of Ren Faire a few years ago and was sitting on the pieces ever since.

So, I offered to piece together what I could out of it. She wanted armor but not traditional suit of armor style. She wanted an armored bodice or corset.

Image

I took measurements, drew up a design, then made patterns on 11x17 printer paper. I cut apart the patterns into smaller pieces so they'd actually fit on the scraps.

Image

The biggest decision was to use the rough natural edges of the hide in our design. This way we could use as much as possible without trimming and making it smaller. It also played into the character/costume idea she had. She wanted to steer towards something like an Elvin Pirate.

I shaped the cups with a Hello Kitty bouncy ball my daughter wasn't using.

She sent me pictures of armor someone else did with vines and leaf detailing and said she wanted something like that etched into it. I drew these designs and taped them to the leather. After tracing it with a ball point pen to indent the surface of the leather I lifted the design and began carving.

Trying to get as much out of the scraps as possible I wanted to make bracers but there wasn't enough to make a pair. So instead I made a bazuband for her sword hand. I layered it to match the style of her bodice and etched similar designs into it.

Delivered the bodice/armor to the buyer. The cups were adjusted more since the last pictures. This cupped them better creating a top so there is no chance of "bounce out".

If I had more leather I would have made the matching bracer. I told her to keep an eye out next year for more and I'd match her up with a second bracer for free to have a complete set.

A: I've been drinking. B: every post I've seen from foamslinger is belligerent trolling and/or asinine juvanilism (sp? mayy not even be a word.) . C: If I didn't have my own shield-maiden Who'd castrate me for a particular breed of comments.... D: Tell your friend the armor looks good on her and kudos to you for making it.

Yeah, Claus, the Foamslinger account is probably just some douchnozzle who's bored and wants to stir people up without anyone knowing who he/she is. Probably one of our regular trolls in disguise.

As one of those regulars, it's not one of us.

Armor looks great, Claus.

Looking over the post history, it's pretty obvious foamslinger69 is Halbrust in disguise.
I'm sure that after posting the "nipples" thread on April 6th
viewtopic.php?f=108&t=41828

It got much angry attention in return. The idiot probably thought it'd pass over with a 4chan like approval in which it didn't.

This person tried saving face by posting their unapologetic apology on April 7th.
The account of foamfighter69 was created on April 8th probably in response to being called out for their fake apology.

This person probably intended on using the faux account to add favor on the already derailed "nipples" thread. Instead of doing so this person decided to turn full troll and tear down as many posts as possible all on April 25th.
One which was in reply to the nipples thread, "I would have just taken it to the field. Let my sword do my talking!"

Ironic considering this coward won't post a single picture of their self on their account. This person also decrees that they don't use facebook anymore. Considerably a motion to avoid having their identity revealed at all.

Can anyone else identify this fighter who might be known as Halbrust?

Osric is right. Let it go.

If this "foamslinger" troll really is Halbrust, he'll slip up and put the last nail in his own coffin soon enough. Halbrust has a terrible attitude and his realm's leadership and every event coordinator in the west knows who he is and what he did. He is definitely skating on thin ice.

If this "foamslinger" is somebody else, then he is just some idiot troll and should be disregarded as such.

Great leatherworking. I am currently in the process of learning how to do stuff like this, so i'm happy to see any design ideas, armor grade or not. My focus will be more on metalworking, but I do plan on doing alot of leatherworking to go with it.

My current armor set actually required much more leather than I had expected, and it's plate lol. When I get a good amount of leather and tools, I will be putting my creations up too, and I would be happy to have something turn out so well
