So I was in the back of an art class doing homework, the class was making paper mache masks. The professor mentioned that paper mache was used as armour among the ancient Chinese. I thought this was interesting tidbit and decided to check it out. And what do you know, it was a thing, before 1000ad. So I checked the book of war, unforunately, it is not a thing. What I want to know is why, and if we can make it a thing.

Paper mache itself is very fragile and would likely break after taking its very first swing. Perhaps there is a way to reinforce it with something like chickenwire that would help add integrity to the structure, but I still don't see it being a very feasible material for anything aside from cosmetics.
