With good a location you should always try to look professional. One way to do this is using a good sign or two. This one should run you about $12 plus fabric. It also allows you to put weapons under it so that you can keep the field a bit better looking.

If you are suggesting a sign to be posted at a practice, then a banner or standard works as well. It would also probably look more period.

Yeah, we made flyers to post around the city on little bulletin boards most of our stores have in them.

I also in the process of making a realm banner to display at our practices.

We are playing around with sign ideas right now. We have a highly visible location for fighting with tons of cars going by the park, and with other parks in the area. The biggest thing we are mulling over is what to put on the sign to get people to stop by and give this a shot.

What kinda of slogans are you guys using?

Thanks,
BAM

I personally like using old war quotes or any good war quote for that matter as a "slogan."

I used Plato's quote:

"Only the dead have seen the end of war."

Possible, the Spartan proverb:

"Come home with this shield or upon it."

I'm partial to the Belegarth slogan of "Play hard, fight harder."

Well I didn't mention this in the design but if you use some paint that makes it look like rock you can remove the pvc look completely. Also someone should probably start a recruitment slogans topic.

back on topic: What is a standard? and with a banner not everyone may want to tie it to trees or stake it in the ground. Not saying they don't work or look good.
Side note: This design also works good for archers as a target.

Have any realms gone the billboard route before? I work right next door to the local billboard company, so I'm just a little curious if anyone has tried that approach previously.

Ashling- What is a standard?
Telenar- With billboards costing $700 to $2500 a month I don't think any realm could afford to try it.

so your going to have someone stand there and hold the flag post? Doesn't sound like a real fun job.
Heres another design I thought might be good

There are lots of standards in Belegarth, it's not a new idea. And no, you don't just pick random joe newb to hold it, you use a pole, and stick it in the ground, usually.

like the drawing I did but you just drive it in the ground?

Use sand bages on the bass and it should stay up.

I was thinking having runners from the post being driving into the ground from 4 different directions maybe even running the post and inch or two in the ground.

Ours is stuck in the ground, and then a there's a cord attached that is also stuck in the ground.... I can't remember why.

You can just stick in the ground, hang it in a tree, whatever, just a sign, and don't make someone hold it up.

Unless they are doing it because they were being stupid on the field and need something to keep them from hitting people in the head, or - um - something similar... Oo! And if little kids show up, they always like to do stupid stuff to feel like they're helping you win!

But yeah... Just shove the pole in the ground 6" - 12" and you should be fine (spring weather means squishy ground... Easier to push the pole in...)

Big Jimmy: Just one? If it were more it would be to help stabalize the post but just one couldn't do much but hinder it. Unless it were place directly opposite of the flag to helpl counteract the weight of the flag
