What about amking a video at an event, kind of like a commercial, that shows some fighting and a quick explanation of things. Then it could be edited for each realms individual needs, adding text at beggining etc. but just some general fights and what not.

Upload it to Youtube and show it on your website. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be priceless!

There have been a lot of efforts to do this in the past; the best one I remember was one from 2004 when Wolfpack hosted a TV demo event and got to use stock footage to edit a commercial. VERY nicely put together, but I think they had a pro with them at one point.

If we can edit something good, by all means YouTube it. Amtgard's got plenty of promos on there, so we have to even out the odds.

I could really use a video. I'm planning on taking out ads at the local movie theaters timed to the release of major fighting movies. One of the three theaters in town does video ads, one does slide show style, and I don't know about the third because I never go to that one. Is there an organized archive of footage somewhere? If so, I can do some editing. For those who are about to tell me to search the Wiki, I plan to, but I'm wondering if there is more that has not been posted to there.

I have the equipment to do it but my problem lies in being able to edit the stuff. Lack of software and knowledge.

That is a great idea if it isn't to pricey, how much is that going to cost you?

those can be kind of pricey, but imagine if you could get 30 seconds of add time before 300

also, the previews to the movie itself are on its film, youll have to buy theater advertisement, so it would be in the whole "Please Turn off all Cell Phones and Pagers" section

Money is not really a problem for my realm right now. The problem is getting the actual ads put together. It is too late to get it for the 300, but I'm thinking Pathfinder will be a good movie to attract attention. And yes, I am aware that this would be in the please turn off your cell phone section, but for opening night, a lot of people end up watching that anyhow.

I think Pathfinder is gonna flop, but geeks love movies in general. Transformers, Spidey3, TMNT, all this is comming soon.

In particular, TMNT calls out to a certain group of kids that was doing kung-fu in the backyard, that are now all 20 something year old peeps.

Speaking from experience Jimmy? ;) TMNT would actually be a really good one for it... How many of us were at one point or another a TMNT for Halloween and ran around hitting our friends/siblings/pets with weapons fasioned from wooden lathe, pipes (whatever was lying around), sticks, and nunchaku made of duct tape and coke bottles? Now we run around hitting our friends/siblings/significant others/pets/complete strangers with weapons that are more durable and look better than duct tape and coke bottles... A bunch of people who see the movie should (hopefully) have a similar background, and want the "better" weapons to bapf their aquaintences.

Pathfinder would be a good one. Even if it flops, you know geeks are going to go and see it, if for no other reason then it features a really big sword.

Good idea

well i am new on the board i am not new to the game of recruiting people locally.

i think the best way to recruit people for those groups that are having trouble with $$$ is to just go to a local park on Saturdays and just have at it.

no swearing, smoking, or anything else at these types of events we don?t wont to scare people off before they get to know the rules!!!

any way i have had any where from 2-15 people (mostly younger people) come an check us out. and ya bet that people will start talking about it. also be friendly just say hi to people that you pass by be personable. like a diplomat but without the stupid politics. (except those on the board of cores ;) )

any way if ya are having trouble just do some of these things. also bring extra weapons for people to try out. invite them to an event. also don?t forget that some people will have trouble with the fact that it is a "violent" sport. for them focus on the rules an regulations. don?t have any one there that you know will fight(or dispute) the rules that will only drive them away. teach people the rules and be totally willing to let some one see your sword(or other weapon) that will show them that your not such a bad guy(or girl)

do some of these things and your younger member numbers will rise dramatically with in the next few months.

Well if we can get the people together, I have a friend with a professional camera and editing software. We have done a movie project with his stuff, read 48 Hour Film Festival, here in Atlanta. Maybe I can get him to come to Beltaine, to shoot some footage. Would that work?

Funny, I had dream about this last night... I saw a video on TV that showed lots of massive Belegarth fighting with metal music, and big flashy words that said that everyone should come to Melcaorme 6 and that we arn't as nerdy as most people think we are.

We need to determine what kind of video we want. Is this going to be something we can put into a media kit for radio/TV coverage, and maybe Con recruitment. Do we want to do some interviews or anything of that nature?

What do you guys want?

Well I spoke with the guy with the camera and the video editing equipment, and he thinks he can make it for Beltaine. Does anyone have any problems with being on film?

Well guys, I have the camera man set up for the event, so if you guys want to go over specifics that would be great.

Do we want:

1) Interviews of folks?
2) Target one person, like a documentary type thing.
3) Just tons of fighting footage
4) Tournament stuff
5) Night life?

We need to determine what we want to shoot, and what the embodiment of Belegarth is so we can reflect it in the video.

i think we should do a little bit of all, just be careful on the night life not to catch anything less than legal

The good garb usually comes out at night anyway... It's when the chicks get all dolled up and are sexily scantily clad... So showing all the people who are beating each other during the day, then the lucious, nubile females at night might be really good... Bellydancing around the fire would attract both genders (the chicks can see how much fun it is, and the guys can drool on themselves)
