Welcome to the boards! (first email for any new member)

So after we get them fighting they will eventually come on the boards. And usually that ends up having the noob questions. So I had a thought that maybe we could have an automatic email in any new member account giving some board etique tips, links to the Bow foamsmithing/ armor making guides a bold face faqs and maybe a list of usernames of who to contact if they want info on some lesser known stuff and how to post pics and have an avatar. Does anyone have anything else that they think should be in the Welcome Email?

I think that's a great idea.

Madog,
You're slammed right now so I wouldn't want to put generating the content of the e-mail on your plate, but if someone came up with a good intro e-mail for newly registered members would this be easy for you to set up?

I'll work on the email contents. Hopefully I'll have something up by 12 tomorrow. Don't know how good it will be but I'm sure you guys could give some pointers and tips.

Here is the ROUGH draft, I'm still waiting on links for armor, more board etiquette and a pm list.
Hail and Welcome New member,
First let me say thank you for showing an interest in our great sport called Belegarth Medieval Combat Society. On these boards you will find information on our rules, how to build weapons/ armor, and where the next event will be.
General Board Etiquette
1. Caps lock is not cruise control for cool. It will however get some people yelling at you.
2. Emoticons should be used sparingly. Just because your happy don?t post every little guy that smiles.
3.
Pictures
Avatars
Many people on the boards have Pictures under there names these are called avatars. How do you get one? Well first you need a picture on your computer. It needs to be no greater than 100 by 100 pixels. Most pictures you find are bigger than that so how do resize them?

Posting Pictures
Eventually you are going to want to show everyone something and that when you need to be able to post a picture. I personally use photobucket which you can find www.photobucket.com. Once you register just follow their instructions to upload the image from your computer. Now that you have uploaded you picture(s) you simply copy the ?img code? below any of the picture(s) that you want to post on the in boards. Just remember not to post anything that could or would be consider Not Safe For Work (NSFW). If you do not understand what that means please see this post: http://www.belegarth.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=9356 .

Building Weapons/ Armor
Rules
The Book of War or BOW in construction of our weapons which you can find here: http://belegarth.com/rules.php . If after reading the BOW please ask any questions in the Rules Questions after checking to see if anyone else has already asked your question.
How do I Build Weapons
First let me recommend that you first build your weapons under the supervision of anyone that has experience building weapons as this will make your first weapons last longer, look better, and probably save you money in the long run. If for any reason you find that impossible that is okay. We have tutorials for you to view and use.
Pleas view this page First:
http://www.angelfire.com/realm2/alcon/tips.html
This Page shows how to build many of the common weapons in Belegarth:
http://www.angelfire.com/realm2/alcon/construction.html
This addresses many of the uncommon weapons that people have wanted to make:
http://www.geddon.org/index.php/Experim ... eapons_FAQ
If you have problems while building your weapons please ask us in the Foamsmithing section. We love to help with weapons and many of us have lots of experience in building our own and undoubtly have dealt with your problem at least once.
If by chance you do not want to make your own weapons you can have a friend make them for you or you can have Edhellen make them for you their website is www.edhellen.com

How Do I Build Armor?
First let me say that armor is in no way required and will not make you a better fighter, it does however give you extra protection.

Here is a slightly modified verison that we'll try to put in place.

Hail and Welcome New member,

First let me say thank you for showing an interest in our great sport called Belegarth Medieval Combat Society. On these boards you will find up-to-date information on events, chapters, and rules. Also you'll be able to trade tips on weapons and armor making, find rides to the next event, and talk about what ever else you want. Feel free to discuss what ever you want, but please keep it within reason.

General Board Etiquette
1. Caps Lock is not cruise control for cool. Caps Lock is implied yelling and will get some people upset with you.
2. Emoticons should be used sparingly. Just because you're happy don't post every little guy that smiles.
3. Signatures are to be small. Don't put images in your signature and don't make it excessively long. If your signature is longer then your posts, turn it off please.
4. No one likes zombies, especially zombie threads. If someone hasn't posted on a thread in months, don't bring it back unless what you have to say is REALLY important.
5. Don't post your phone number so everyone can see it, unless you need friends that badly.
6. Respect each other!

Avatars
Many people on the boards have Pictures under there names these are called avatars. How do you get one? Well first you need a picture on your computer. It needs to be no greater than 100 by 100 pixels and 33kb. If you need to resize your image, use Microsoft Paintbrush, a free tool that is included with all versions of Windows.

Posting Pictures
Eventually you are going to want to show everyone something and that when you need to be able to post a picture. I personally use Photo Bucket which you can find www.photobucket.com. Once you register just follow their instructions to upload the image from your computer. Now that you have uploaded you picture(s) you simply copy the "img code" below any of the picture(s) that you want to post on the in boards. If the image is too large for your screen and it causes a scroll bar at the bottom of the screen, please post a link to the image instead. Just remember not to post anything that could or would be consider Not Safe for Work (NSFW). If you do not understand what that means please see this post: http://www.belegarth.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=9356.

Rules
Belegarth's Book of War or BOW can be found here: http://belegarth.com/rules.php. If after reading the BOW you have questions on how something is interrupted or still unclear on a certain rule, check the Rules Question forum first. It's possible that your question has already been asked before so you can read what has already been said. Once you've searched and you still haven't found an answer, ask your question. Only knowledgeable people have the right to respond to questions asked in this board so you can be sure that you're getting good solid answers.

only one small problem- there is no program called paintbrush but there is however one called paint. other than that all changes are cool with me. Just one question Winfang why did you omit armor? I know it isn't required to play but it still looks cool.

It wasn't very fleshed out, not a lot of details in it when compared to the other sections. If you want to put some more information in to it, then we can add it in as well.

I was waiting on some links to get posted so i could add them. No big deal though I don't think anyone new to the sport should be busting out armor unless thier loaded.

It depends on where you play. If armor is used by everyone at your practices and events, then not having it severly limits your life expectancy and could in turn ruin your fun. Of course, the same is to be said about fighting single sword versus everyone sword/board.

not to mention being the only red versus all sword n board.but also armor will not make you any better as a fighter just give you an extra hit barring reds and arrows. do you want me to write up an armor section?

Go for it.

Winfang seeing as I don't have time to do that for a while could you go ahead and put the aforementioned version in place and if I get time to make one I'll send it to you.

Not to be pushy but is it up in place yet? Is there any problems with getting it in place?
