Spring, time for flyers!

Okay, I'm using Gimp, which I've never used before, so I'm kinda getting the hang of it as I go. Here is what I have so far:

Image

And it's cheaper to print B&W brother:

Image

First, Gimp comes default with a very limited number of fonts. I'm partial to Times New Roman, but it's not very medievaly, or combaty.

Second, yes, I misspelled Medieval. Trust me, I'll fix that.

I like that information is short and sweet. I think that any flyer should not flood the viewer with answers to questions, why would they seek more information then?

I do want to spice up the text areas, but I like the rest of it. What do you think?

I'd change "safety" to "safely".

Other than that, looks good.

Full force changed to "full contact"

Bangor not tryin' to nitpick, but "Medieval." *Edit* Bangor should learn to read before he writes. -Bangor

A pretty good flyer, though, the space is well-ordered, and there is a definite sense of motion. The greyscale one looks a bit better to me than the color one (and it's cheaper).

Also, do the "tabbed email" where you have lots of vertical tabs pre-cut with your email and "Belegarth Foam Combat" on them. The title can use a little more spice, but leave the rest be, it looks good!

He knows he spelled it wrong.

I know you are personally partial to sunglasses in Belegarth, but I don't know that I would lead that picture for a medieval society. I think it's a great pic myself, but it just doesn't scream 'hey look, medieval combat society' to me, it screams 'normal archery tourney'.

My guess would be he wanted an even mix of guy to girl images. I'd bet he had a hard time finding a girl arching to begin with.

Actually, and I mean no offense to girls are there are plenty of female * stompers out there, but pics of female archers are about a dime a dozen.

But, I certainly didn't find one that said "assassin" or "This **** dead" like that one does.

I think that pic has a place on a flyer, but I don't think it's this one. The fact that she's looking down and to the right helped to, making it perfect for the upper left of the flyer.

Though since I started using gimp I've found it's not that hard to flip it, hence in the other 2 pics 2 right handed fighters are suddenly left handed, which I find SO funny.

If anyone else can come up with a pic of an archer (I want 1 pic with an archer on every flyer, I think it's a big draw) that is BAD * as opposed to "turdy" or "meh, okay" I would appreciate it.

Also, a rule that I had for this flyer was avoiding anyone dyed in any of the pics.

For permissions I need to know who that's a picture of, and who owns the picture.

Strictly, all you need to know if the license the picture is under, presuming it is a sufficiently permissive license.

Look up the Creative Commons licensing system sometime.

And if it's NOT, as with all of Glenn Loos-Austin's work, then we might have a problem.

Glenn, or Ikon, is the husband of Denara, a fighter out of Clan of the Hydra / Rhun / Madison WI. He does awesome work. He's a professional who shows up to events. His photos are amazing. However, they're also copyrighted. Now they're awesome people, so all they want you to do is ask.

Any other photos may be the same situation.

And then there's girls. And girls sometimes have an issue with their photo being put on on the bulletin board at the supermarket. And I can't say I blame them.

It's not right or wrong, :P it's just polite.

I have to fix the "*.com" on the very bottom right. It looks awesome gray scale, where the blue looks more like concrete. I've found on the female archer is Sita (thank you men's forum), now I just have to hope she checks pm's. I don't think Inanna or Fox mind, but I should contact them as well. The top pic was taken by Moxk (realm leader) and the right one is Sir Tiberius who is a member of my realm, so neither of those are a problem.

But, again, does ANYONE know who took the bottom pic?

That's a girl from my realm. I think the local paper took the photo. I'm sure they'll never know. I can ask if she'd mind being on a flier if you'd like.

If it IS Sita, as the mens forum suggests, I've sent her a pm. If she could just reply itwould be awesome. If it's not Sita, someone is gonna get a weird pm....

Glenn's pic is a little dark in greyscale, but very nicely done. I also think it's kind of funny the flow of directions on the left both lead to him. Which will he attack?!?

Glenn is doooomed!

Hahaha, it's Sita. I don't know if/how often she checks the boards though. I'll be seeing her this weekend, so if you don't get a response from her, I'll get one to you on Sunday or Monday.

Although the picture was taken by Glenn Loos-Austin (aka Ikon) it's actually a picture of Sir Tiberius.

No. Bo asked me to throw them on a CD in PDF format, and I'm having mad trouble converting JPG to PDF without spending money.

Worst. Excuse. Ever.

Host them somewhere...Im sure someone on the board will be able to download the JPG and re-upload or email you the PDF.

That or get some demo software...Im sure you can find some if you try.

If I could get someone to convert both:

and

to PDF for me, that would be awesome. I've :ordered: adobe, but it won't :arrive: for 24 hours or so, and then I won't have any exp. with it. So if it's easy for you to do I would appreciate it. Host the PDF's or email them to moveallzig@yahoo.com

Does anyone know who took the photographs in these pics? I would like some to promote the sport locally and for an online ecommerce site.

The top one was taken by Moxk, the right when was taken by Glenn Loos-Austin. Glen has said several time he doesn't mind as long as credit is given, he's a professional photographer.

I never found the owner of the bottom pic.
