Use these however you want. They are free to be used to promote what we do.

Dude, I like these allot! I think we should try to start branding out sport somewhat. I see myself using these in the future!

Good thread!

You've got some pixellation and color incondistency there. You may want to work at a higher resolution or use a better file format/program. Are you using paint? I recommend Paint.NET or maybe The GIMP.

Arrakis,
Yeah I've definately been working in a waaay undersized resolution. I'm really an amateur at this stuff and this is an important lesson for me. I've been working with Adobe photoshop. I take the original picture of a person and then extract the figure, weapon and shield separately. I'm really exploring what I can do from that point on. I mean, I could keep lighting people on fire, but I'd rather learn more methods.

I like to take an image, make it at least 2000x2000, pen-tool trace the contours of the silhouette, and then go from there. Well, actually... that's pretty much done.

You're getting a little ahead of yourself. If you do a search you'll realize that the idea of net ads has been discussed at length. Also, if there's no posters up in your area, put them up! But most groups do (or should) take that initiative.

Just started a group down here and no one has any clue about this sort of thing so I turned this poster out with GIMP. I hope the tagline doesn't upset anyone, but paintball is well-known around here and that one-line explanation has been enough to get most people thinking along the right lines.

I have this as an .xcf or .psd with layers so you could change the text easily, if you like it. I would like to contribute for others starting up by making a few more of these 'sport' posters at printing resolutions, but I don't have much in the way of high quality, front-and-center action poses to work from. I found this one googling around, but I had to upsample it so it's not as nice. Any high-res photos you want to send along, PM me a url or send them to my profile email and I will work up some other poses.

All advice, color suggestions/requests are welcome. The 8.5x11 300dpi is here

Nice. The only thing that's got me confused is how that figure is holding that shield! Is it attached to his knees??

lol In the photo he is actually leaning way forward with his shoulder down to block a leg swing and what looks like his arm and elbow is his tabard-thing flying back. I tried cropping out the tabard, but it just looked too thin to me, I thought this version with it in had a better 'action' to it. Here's the no-tabard version. Whaddaya think?

Image

I cleaned up the edges alot, but it's still a little ragged, which is why I'd like to start from a good, high-res image that I don't have to upscale. I'm not an artist, so I can't do it from scratch, but I can tweak out a photo ;)

That is an awesome suggestion. I have spent a fair amount of time now scrolling through photos associated with Belegarth and with Pizza and it has not been easy to find images with good action that were not so low resolution that it would take hours to clean them up. I want to make something good to recruit with that Cib can add to the poster packet. I am also going to make these available with the layers so anyone can change the text or the colors easily. So, send me links to good images or PM me for my email and I will gladly make the poster.

This is taken from a couple of guys sparring at a national event, I don't know them or what else was going on. Also, I don't think it makes much difference to the criticism, but looking at the image after your comment I realized my layers had gotten screwed up. Here is the shields in the right order with a more Belegarth tagline.

If you use the pen tool to draw your shapes onto the original picture, the resolution of the original doesn't matter.

Just a tip.

Arrakis: Hmm, that would be a simple and intelligent way to beat the res issue. So, scale the photo up FIRST and then DRAW the selection onto it, I will try another go here.

Peter: I am a newb here, so who/what would you recommend as good form for the image?

Agnarr: My favorite touch is the lights at the tips of the swords.

So, because I'm lazy, and because I don't feel like re-downloading Photoshop, who would like to help out with a Marietta Medieval Combat Society image? We have fighters from many games, including Dag, Bel, Darkon, SCA, NERO, and we hope soon Ampt as well. I would like to get a poster showing several fighters outlined, with "Marietta Medieval Combat Society" on it, and a space for a web address (should have in the next couple of weeks). That would be a great help for us to get started. Thanks!

Here is another that I just did, the 'form' seems fine to me, at least on the left. I am still waiting for my 'good form' example... Peter?

Oh, and I put a little website together for our group with some general info and stuff. All constructive comments are welcome.

Dedric, if you want me to change the text (and the color) on one of mine or you want to supply an image with 'good form' I would be happy to help you out.

Ok, I'm pretty sure these are too poor of resolution, and my eyes aren't trained enough to tell what is good form, but these are a couple photos I think could work shape-wise, maybe? Let me know what makes a photo good for translation. Most of the photos I've taken are too far away or blurry to be of use - I'll try to get some high resolution action pictures soon. Please let me know if the links don't work.

This one just amused me a great deal from the guy's face and the way I captured his sword.

Thanks Rose! With Arrakis' suggestion I am blowing them up and then tracing the outline at about 50% zoom, so I end up with a pretty smooth line at the right resolution (translation: resolution is not such a big deal now). The first image may work really well and I like the angle. The second and third are probably still too far apart.

If you're going through your pics, see what you have that isn't just sword and board guys.

Nice site iskatyel! Where did you get that wright up on the front page? Di you write it?

Rose, the first 2 picts are really good, I am also looking for photos to use: viewtopic.php?f=128&t=28981 Is it ok if I try to convert one or 2 of those?

iskatyel, once you trace the fighters out you can move them closer together ;) , you can also swop out one fighter for a fighter with a better stance from another image.

Go ahead and use whatever you want. Like I said, these are all really old and poor quality. I've started using higher res and loading my pictures to Flickr. I don't really have the time right now to sift through photos, and you know best what you're looking for in a picture, so here are the links to the albums I have.

(The older albums are mixed with really random ****, so ignore those. I can explain the album titles if people are curious.)

Cib: The writing is mine, thanks. I guess once they are fighter blob outlines, we could move them around, I'll play with that.

Rose, I found some to work with in there, thanks (That last image... WOW. I can't make an outline of that one though, you've got to preserve the color ;)).

And Peter, I guess you'll just let me know if you 'run into' any good form.

It's not *my* fault his sword was ethereal. I've never had a photo turn out like that before - his swing was probably too fast for my camera.

So the truth is, I haven't actually found any good action pics that aren't too cluttered... I would absolutely love to have a pic of this nature that shows 6-10 fighters with decent form.

In the mean time, I happened across what I think would be an amazing view of Alric arching at Rag, if anyone wants to get another pic from that one... I suppose they could all be put on the page, albeit separately. Perhaps the archer in one corner, swordsman in the other, and towards the bottom, the ballnwall/swordnboard combo pic.

I like the idea of a bigger group of fighters as well. I had the same problem finding a clean shot that is action and not facing off, though. Obviously for this 'sporty' look it needs to be clean and clear and 'in your face' so I think it needs to be just one scene. For the photo collage look in some of the other promo posters Cib has up, you could work in several different scenes.

I wasn't thrilled with this image, I included it in the stuff I sent Cib to put up, but I guess I'll post it here. The guys on the right started out further to the right, but I moved it all closer together.
