Hey man, I was just thinking about you guys in Des Moines! We (TA) need to come down and fight with you guys when it gets a bit warmer.

How you present Belegarth will depend somewhat on what population you are targeting. If you are presenting yourself to a general audience, often a more vauge description works best. You might try giving a bare bones explaination of the concept; often comparing Belegarth to paintball works to get people interested and over the 'wierd' factor.

Practice time and location is also very important. Once you have established a regular schedule for a few weeks, try not to change it since many people will only know how to contact you based on this information.

Providing a few links to www.belegarth.com and www.geddon.org would also be appropriate so that people who want to know more can explore a bit. I'm not very familiar with facebook, but is it possible to provide an in-frame link to a youtube video? If so, selecting a good looking video to represent what we do might also be effective.

Try Meetup. They are geared toward getting people to meet in person rather than online. Considering the weather lately, I've had decent success with it.

My realm, Tir na nOg, uses Facebook a lot to keep in touch with some of our more sporadic members. If you want you can take a look at our page (just search for Tir na nOg). As for recruiting, we've gotten a number of recruits who saw that their Facebook friends did this via tagged pictures so make sure that you get as many of your current members as possible on the group so it links to other people.

In spite of all that however, real face-to-face recruitment is best. Our more permanent members almost always see us practicing and take interest as a spur of the moment thing. So I guess what I'm saying is that Facebook is best as an additional recruitment method, not as a primary.

I wasn't thinking of using it as a primary way of recruiting but as more of a way for ppl to contact us because no one really uses the solasmahr tir website anymore and so i thought of using facebook as a way for ppl to contact us because Lupin and I are on almost everyday so it would be a more reliable way for ppl to contact us that's all.

We were thinking of having a event were all of the other Iowa realms would come down to des moines but nothing has been decided yet but we would really enjoying fighting with u guys, I'll post when we actually have event scheduled

In the past we have tried to have one "all Iowa" event per month during the fighting season. That hasn't always happened, but if you guys wanted to host one of the first ones this season, I know you'd get some turnout for it.

Definitely! Some NB people will probably show up. I would recommend April (you might want to schedule around Chamonix field day if possible, I believe that's usually in April) or really early May. Also, you guys should make sure to come up to CF for Melcaorme May 14-17!

If you make it April, Beornve may show up as well.

Just saying, please don't overlap it with Beltaine (April 23rd-26th I think), 'cuz then a few of us will be on our way to TN instead. And the weekend following is dead week/finals for both TA and NB, so Derian's suggestion is probably best.

Sounds like you'd probably want it ~april 4th or 11th - you'd get Beornve and dodge field day, beltaine, finals, and Mel. Preferably the 4th, to give yourself more of a cushion.

Of course, I'm just trying to make sure there are no conflicts with Field Day ;).

A very small percentage of Iowa fighters attend Chaos. I'd go ahead and schedule it for whenever works best for you. At worse, you'll miss out on 6 or less of the more dedicated fighters. Just let us know when in April you guys want to have your opener, TA is very interested in coming down for it.

We don't care if your late. We practice near a nice covered picnic area with a bathroom right next to us.

Would it be possible to move it to that Saturday, the 4th? It would be much easier for most people in both TA and NB if it wasn't on a weekday.

Thats fine. I called Harbanian and he said that we shall discuss maybe having Openominon '09 moved from April 6th to April 4th at our meeting this monday, so i shall put up what we decided on monday night or tuesday. stay tuned

Well, we discussed it and it turns out a lot of are main ppl would not be able to come so when we voted about it the majority was Nay for having Openominon moved to April 4th. sry but Openominon shall remain being held on April 6th 4pm til Dark.

Denidil, i would just like to point out that driving from johnston to ames is about 45 minute drive, while driving from johnston to waterworks park is only about a half hour drive.

Johnston to Ames: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... 7&t=h&z=11

Johnston to Waterworks park: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... 8&t=h&z=12

But go where u like.
