I made these for our local event we just held in the spring and thought I would make them available for everyone.

I used the Gimp. I was following a PS tut, so they are not 100% as nice as they would have been if done in PS as I had to translate to another app, but I think I got pretty close.

As far as photo-editing software goes, is Gimp a good program to start with, assuming that I have absolutely no experience outside of MS paint?

Gimp isnt a bad program to learn on. it's a lil backwards, but basicly the same as photoshop and it's free. Deviantart has a lot of brushed and what not for it as well.

Inkscape is a nice app. You can get some nice results with it. I expect if you used the Gimp and Inkscape to compliment each-other you could get some pretty nice results. I should try that...

Ok, so must be retarded or something, because I cannot for the life of me figure out how to work with text in GIMP. I mean, I can add the text, but when I finally get it all done I:

  • Don't know how to deselect the text box so I can see it without the lines around it
  • Don't know how to see a print preview of it so I know how it will look
  • I have no idea what the text already on the poster is
  • ...And when I view it in quicktime the text is extremely blurry.

A little help here Cib?

Oh, and I'm working on the red and blue BMCS posters btw.
