So CAL Event Suggestions

Postby Sir Anastasia » Wed Sep 22, 2010 6:17 pm

Greetings to all who may consider attending So Cal's Battle for the Ring III in January 2011. I have a few questions for the community at large as we transition from a day event to a multi-day camping event. California land and insurance come at a great price and I would like advice on how to price the event, keeping it fair to the hosting realms and to the individuals attending.

1) How does the community feel about charging $26 for a two night, 3 day camping event, parking, camping, and 1 feast included? What is an appropriate range?
2) Most of our land is arid. What does the community think of fighting in clean, dry, slightly sandy dirt?
3) How far would you be willing to walk from your campsite to the fighting field?
4) Would you walk farther to grass or even drive to it if it meant you wouldn't be fighting on dirt?
5) What do you think of separate camping and fighting sites?
6) What are your deal breakers?

Thank you to everyone for helping us out with these difficult decisions.

Since I'm not from the west and 99% most likely won't be attending, my advice comes at not much consequence.

But $26 isn't too steep, I'd make it $25 for a nice sounding number.

Also, I wouldn't ever like to have to drive to a fighting field from my campsite.

The $1 is for Belegarth national funds. We always hoped if we could do a camping event, we would be able to give some money back to the national organization. Thank you for the input regarding the field.

fighting field seems fine, i also would not be ok driving to my field. i get upset enough when sites have shower/bathing facilities i have to drive to once a day.

26 dollars is on par or below most events easily.

Anna,

We hosted our first War of Reckoning in the St. George, UT area and the terrain was some soft sand / red clay / hardpack with various bits of scrub brush scattered throughout / creating funneling alleys, etc. Overall comments were positive, though when we got some rain it really turned everyone's red dusty gear, garb, and campsites into some red mud.

- Consider if the camping will be on the same terrain as the field?

I'm with the first two responders that driving to the field - if its the only convenient way to get there in any sort of timely fashion - is a negative aspect. At the recent Samhain and Yestare events the field has been a little bit of a walk (maybe 1/4-1/3 mile if you took the long way on the road and much less than that if you wanted to climb a hill and wade through the trees) from the camp/troll/weapons check site and while driving was an option (and useful if you had lots of people / gear) it wasn't necessary.

- If you can, keep it w/in walking distance

That said, I've never had to pay more than $15.00 for a weekend event, but whatever the price is then that's what it is and high prices may keep long-distance travellers away, but hell, if you're paying for gas to travel what's an additional 10 bucks, you know? If the event site had restroom / shower facilities, or at least a large restroom building where you could go into a stall and use babywipes for a spongebath, then I would certainly be willing to pay a bit more since not all sites have those sorts of ammenities.

For me, the only real "deal breaker" would be if the event was held in an area where you couldn't have camp fires or drink alcohol / make noise.

The ability to drink and make merry is an important one. That's definitely gonna be a deal-breaker for most.

1. 26$ sounds completely reasonable. This 3-day camping event is from Friday to Sunday right? because if not it is highly unlikely i could come. Unless it is in the first week of jan.
2. But the sand would hurt my beautiful figure!! Really I have no problem with sand as long as it isn't ridiculously fine and we are breathing it all day.
3. Uh, walk? half a mile? maybe a mile at most.
4. Would prefer grass.
5. I'm fine with it.
6. Deal breakers for me: If you don't allow minors to come. Me and some of my friends from school in Andor are 16-17 and would love to come. Also, if it isn't on the weekend I highly doubt I would be willing to skip school for it.

It would be 20 ft if the field is on sand or 1 mile if on grass. Minors are welcome is they have parent's signed waivers. The dates are for MLK weekend (a 3 day and are Fri-Sun). Thank you!

hey i will most likely be going to it because i know a few of the people that

would most likely be there like your self idk we only fought like once though

when i was a complete noob but, i moved recently actully got kicked out for our

sport f ppl who say it isnt a sport i dont need them, but off topic big time i

prefer grass over sand and have no problem with bringing a bike to get to

there faster only deal breaker would be age limits and not being able to be

i might also be able to get a good number of other noobs there this year

the price does seem a lil high but im totally fine with it for 3 days of good

fighting id pay 1000 bucks right now since i am the most experienced

around my area now which is very very sad i must say i have yet to be kill

other then when i let a friend win since i moved i need a challenge i hope to see you there

Hey Myles,

You should check out the official post of the event now. It will be on grass, it will be FREE, but it is no longer a camping event. We couldn't spring for the insurance for an outside site this year. The date has changed to Jan 8, 2011 Saturday and it is a day event with a feast at the end. Hope to see you and your noob friends are very welcome to come and play. We will have extra gear for them!
