New realm in the northern chicago suburbs

Hey, I've started a new realm, I don't think anyone else is near us. Were at sleepy hollow park in Glenview, IL if anyones interested. We're all rookies and currently on our weapons atm but we should be starting practice once the weathers decent.

Hi there, I'm pretty sure that Matthias has already contacted you about Briarwood (another new realm), but if he hasn't, I wanted to extend an invitation. We are currently practicing in Northbrook with the SCA, but will be moving further north come good weather We most likely will end up in Highland Park, Libertyville, or somewhere in the middle.

Until the weather warms up so you have your own field, please feel free to come to our practices; we're always happy to teach new people. We also have plenty of basic loaner gear for you to learn with, so you don't need to worry about having built weapons first.

If you'd like some help with your weapons and garb, we can get you started. We're currently in the process of teaching our new folks how to sew, re-blade swords, and build other weapons right now. It might be a bit of a hike for you, but it should be easy to add new people to the lessons.

Good luck with your realm! Once the weather gets nice, we'll try to come down to visit from time to time.

Hey guys, welcome to Belegarth and becoming one of the many Chicago Area Realms! I'd recommend joining the Chicago Area Realms forum, it's pretty much dead but there's a lot of information in there about the area realms and sometimes we coordinate mini-event dates and things in there to make sure we don't conflict.

When and where are your practices now?

Anyway, I'm the King of Dunharrow, which I believe is the closest established Belegarth realm to you guys (Kingdom of Valderia (I know I spelled that wrong ) in Chicago might be closer) and when practice warms up we'd love to do whatever it takes to have you guys come visit our practice and swing some stick. In the summer we practice Tuesdays 5-dark in Wing Park in Elgin. If you guys have any questions or anything feel free to contact me. I know at least one of the guys from one of your groups knows Agnarr, I'd love to come up and visit a practice with him, but I graduate college in 2 weeks, Kinda busy time in my life right now

We're currently practicing 6:30-9 on Tuesday nights at Glenbrook North High School, though that's currently iffy thanks to snow and spring sports starting. If you manage to find time to stop by our practice, you might want to PM/email me first to make sure we actually have our space for the day. Also, fyi, we're the ones who know Agnarr; he, Matthias, and I all went to college together.

We'll probably be switching up our day/time/location come warm weather, so (hopefully) we should be able to occasionally stop by Dunharrow. Thanks for the invitation! In the meantime, we'll be busy convincing the few fighters we can muster during the winter to come out to events with us.

Greetings from the Realm of Thorum! I know it would be a bit of a drive for you, but we are in Batavia, IL, not too far from rte. 88. We are a fairly young realm in both having only been aroung for 3-4 years and also alot of our fighters are in high school or just out. We love to have folks visit, so if you are looking for some fresh fights, we are practicing at Engstrom park across from Batavia high school, Fridays from 3:45 - 6:00pm.

Also check out Big Jimmy's realm. They have some really excellent vets!

I'll add our info to the Chicago forum. We are going to practice at Sleepy Hollow park in Glenview on Fridays at 6:30 once it gets warm. I actually practiced w. Valdara when I went to UIC, which got me into the sport .
A lot of you are pretty far but hopefully we can get Holmgard together to meet up and practice sometime out there.
A few of us plan on coming to Briarwood next time the GBN gym is open. Looking forward to it

Definitely not. I don't think any of the people who've shown up to our practices have ever been a student there.

We have the space because the captain of the Thieves of Hearts works for the school. He already has an agreement with the school for SCA practices, and was nice enough to let us piggyback off them. The only extra requirement is that you sign an SCA waiver, since they 'own' the space.

well, I'm gonna try and go this week before WPO, do I need money? where is the best place to park? are there any types of weapons I should not bring? any other rules I should know about?

No money required. If things go as planned you should be able to park adjacent to the fieldhouse at GBN. Here is a map:

We do not restrict any particular weapons but, we share space with a local SCA group so their members take priority when space is limited. eh, I wear garb to events, if it's practice I'd rather be in half garb.

If you have garb that is comfortable indoors, please wear it. At the very least, we expect a tabard/tunic while we're indoors from experienced fighters. Full garb will become more important once we move back outside, since we'll be using it to help with recruitment.
