Make them feel individually welcome. Take a few minutes and talk to each one that shows up. If you have that many people stopping through to see it, you should have someone on constant greeter duty at practice. That person should be able to go through the rules, answer any questions, etc. As the first contact, they have a responsibility to be on top of that.

To keep them around, get them involved in stuff outside of practice. If you have a day with a lot of new recruits, go to dinner afterward. Get them to the point of being friends with the folks at practices.

And you should be having them pay for their own equipment, or at least the core and foam. That's just standard procedure, man.

My tactic: hire them to the Sith Empire. That's what I did with our newest batch of recruits at least :P

True, make them feel welcome. Have a good set of loaner weapons for new peeps, so they can try it out without having to invest in gear. When they want their own swords, they need to buy the stuff.

Don't get discouraged. Belegarth and other likeminded groups have a ridiculously high turnover rate. I'd wager that only 1 out of 5 new guys will stick around for more than a year. You can try to lure them in by offering them garb, weapons, sparring lessons, sweet tea, etc. but you'll just end up getting frustrated and risk getting burned out.

The ones that will stay, will stay.

Be both if you can swing it. Helps with recruiting.

Be a dag unit and a bel realm. No contract for a dag unit.

Apparently some people are a little butt-hurt about the topic and it came across as me talking **** on my realm. so we are going to hash some stuff out in the realm recruiting and our status as a Dag or Bel realm. For the sake of realm drama being brought here... I snipped this thread.

-sigh- Thanks for the feedback guys :D
