How do you attract non-combatants? Crafters, Photographers, camp cooks, etc?

What does your local realm/practice do?

I can't say any of the realms that I've belonged to have actively recruited for non-combatants, but I suppose that the atmosphere you create is your advertising. If you make it clear that combat is the #1 priority, and that derailments from fighting aren't tolerated, then non-coms may feel unwelcomed. However, hosting activities not related to fighting, such as Arts and Science competitions, and inviting vendors to your events would be a great way to make non-combatants to feel needed and useful, and thus welcome in the group.

Otherwise, non-coms without any particular talents just kind of gravitate, I find. Sometimes it's retired fighters who just want to relax and watch the show, and often it's family and friends of people out on the field. Let them do their own thing and relax, instead of constantly pressuring them to fight as some may do, and they'll enjoy their time and want to come out again.
