How to be a Knight

Postby Thomas MacFinn » Fri Apr 11, 2008 11:40 am

See http://www.midrealm.org/kith/kith/Targeting1.wmv at 11:10-11:16 and try to figure out what the guy swinging the sword is doing with his heater shield.

I know he isn't holding one, but that doesn't matter. He's a knight and he's doing the proper shield work for that move anyway. I've yet to see a knight, in any variation of the combat arts, that did otherwise.

I have never seen those moves before and I must have rewound those 5 seconds a dozen times figuring out the shield work. I still don't have the hip motion down.

I would strongly suggest everyone familiarize themselves with the search function on this forum. Most of the questions you could ever think of have been asked by somebody in the past.

He moves both sword and "shield" in very specific ways to avoid hitting them on each other: jabbing the sword (and his sword arm) between the shield and his body during the setup for both the body and leg shot and rotating the bottom of the shield up and out of the way by differing amounts when he throws the shot.

Now I see...

The sword/arm is not on the inside of his shield, but following the bottom edge from his return.Kinda like a mulina(sp) to the chest, but lower and sideways. However with a small shield/sword you could go to the inside of your own and still clear the elbow if you had to.

As for the hips same twist as most other shots.

This would be easier in person,as in If we were there for the class.

Have you made it through His range class Vids yet?
