Majority of them are up, have a lot of shots from Wulfgars Kinsing and The Burning of Sir Raziers longship to touch up so they aren't Pitch black. Most of these shots are taking from camp while I was being fat or resting so there are a lot of the Dark Angles sparring since they were next door.

Speaking of the Dark Angels...

Before the Four Horsemen Tourney...

Smokin' armor (especially on a hot day like that one).

Team DA's first fight in that Tourney...

and their Second.

Very interesting videos, I think. Especially that second one. Go to YouTube (click the vids again) and you can upgrade them to high quality and fullscreen them for a better view of the action.

Varadin, I SO wish I had thought to record the 2-out-of-3 fights-that-would-never-end and The Gtg Survival Song and could make a proper music video. God, that would RULE.

Next Rag, for SURE.

The dude that drags his * on the ground...seriously. The herald was about half a match too late on that one.

Some of the tournaments this year were a joke. Like the florentine tournament where they let a guy use a spear and a flail. What the ****.

Thats the problem with calling it a "two weapon" tourney. I was more annoyed with the guy in it using a redsword and a blue sword sheathed in his belt.

Magnus was it the guys in the B team or just other GtG watching. What does it say about your unit when you are willing to cheat against each other.

If it's a "Two Weapon" tourney, then what's the problem? It they'd said two swords, or two blues, which is what we usually refer to as "Flourentine", sure, you've got a right to complain. Otherwise, kwitcherbitchin and pick up some foam weapons and fight.

Not commenting on the tourneys themselves, I missed every one.

In the "weapon and shield" tourney, Spyn was prohibited from stabbing. A shame, really.

Yeah, the 2 weapon tourney has been that way for the four rags that I've went to.

All in all, I'm not very interested in the tournaments, but the worst part is that they waited till the tournaments were over to do the woods battle, which rocked yet again.

Yeah, it was "blue and shield," "single blue," "red," all of them disallowing stabbing tips. But "two-weapon" allowed any combination of two weapons. Even, like, archery + red sword or something.

Maybe I will volunteer to run the tourneys next year. I really did like the way they were spread out over the week, though, that was a definite plus, especially because there were like 40 Four Horsemen teams and it took forever, even with four bouts going on simultaneously.

If I were running the tournaments, though, I would definitely allow stabbing tips on weapons, at least in the weapon & shield category.

I liked the way they did the tourneys at Olympics better. Saved the finals for the last day. I would agree with allowing stab tips in weapon and shield. If told two weapons without any other description, I don't get the anger at spear and flail. two blues should crush that combo anyway. Unless it's the mighty Kyrax on the other end of the spear.

PS. The term Florentine was coined in the SCA circa 1969 when an argument broke out regarding spinach salad. It refers to the use of 2 eating utensils as weapons. The term has nothing to do with historical accuracy or the use of blue weapons. Thought you should know.

Since I can't post on the Dag boards, I think I should say this hear since we're talking about tournoments.
The war god final match, I wasn't booing because of rhinohiding, I booed because someone was calling "Light". In a big battle I don't really care, but calling light in a tournament is recognition of the hit, but saying you're not taking it. Can someone pass that to Spyn for me?

Sol, I'd call light in a tourney: if a club flexed over the outside edge of my shield and touched me without "hitting" me. That way I feel good about acknowledging the contact but I don't have to take an arm from a touch.

Of course, what was going on in War Gods wasn't even close to proper Light calling or proper shot taking, or proper anything, for that matter.

The dude with the longspear, two flails on lanyards, and the back shield was ridiculous. He would swing twice with his flails and holler "blueblueblueblueblueblueblue!!" like he'd swung 8 times. It would have been funny, but the first guy he fought actually LOST.

Enoch, I would have felt sorry for you, but it was so much fun when we were doing it.

I also see no problem with calling light in a tourney. The sufficient force rules still apply. Hell, I'll call "light" and "graze" when I'm sparring sometimes, when applicable, and prefer when my opponent does the same. I don't like winning (or losing) on shots that weren't good enough.

Yeah, Warthog's also really new (like <1 year experience) and has some funny ideas about hit-calling. For that matter, there's NO REASON to call your hits when it's obvious what you're swinging with. I only call hits when I'm supposed to--FROM BEHIND.

Magnus, thank you! Please, continue to only call shots from behind and encourage others to do so! I get so many people that refuse to take a Red shot if I don't call it as such or ask me, "Is that green??" if I don't tell them that it is at the time. Uh, I just STABBED YOU. Yeah, it's green.

Hit hard take light is a bad concept. I understand the intension, but this game has minimum force rules for a reason. There are plenty of games that don't, if you want to take light go talk to them. If you want to take light on a Bel field, be my guest, but don't expect me to do it. The more people that take light shots, without even telling the other person to step it up a notch, the lighter and lighter our minimum force becomes, across the sport. Next thing you know we're tap fighting. Keep minimum force as the minimum, problem solved.

I totally see what you're saying, and I agree that I'm taking a shot light I will let them know. For instance, if I'm armed I'll take the grazing light shot so I can go rez, but I'll say "That was light, but I'm taking it" or "Good enough, I'm gonna go rez". My point was that in a tournament where most everyone can see/hear the shots calling light is like acknowledging that you're not taking it, although the heralds can see/hear that you're been hit. Maybe I'm just anal, whatever. It is a game afterall, right?

I'm so glad I went to town and did laundry during the tournaments... I think I'll do that next year as well ;)

I thought Ragnarok was Awesome this year ! I haven't had such a great time at Rag since XX. Athron did an excellent job with day battles. I really enjoyed the way he ran things. The Georgia vendors had some great food for cheap until late at night. Sunday night Eryndor was bumping. Going to War council as a Goblyn was memorable :) Militia party was very well attended, great free booze, and mud wrestling always entertains. Pimps and Ho's party was a good laugh, especially the lap dancing. I slept thru mardi gras ( woops. ) Friday night merchants row was packed, it was like downtown Ragnarok. And the couch riding in the creek Saturday was the highlight of my week.

I took lots of pictures but they are not online yet. Don't hold your breath, I have 2 batches of wedding pictures to take care of before event pictures ;)

It was great seeing all of you !

Ahh ragnarok....

Nothing about ego and penis envy can ever suprise me... I only have one complain about the whole week... heralds SHOULD call shots... never tell your heralds "don't call shots." that's all I've got.

Guess people at rag hate blue weapons, apparently there was alot of rhinohiding. I had almost no trouble with that, they took their hits from me better than they do here during beltaine or EQ. Awesome.

For referance, Spyn vs. Erikose:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4fHuGwygD0

* Solusar: So, in a fighting system with hit calibration (i.e. the ability to call light), you shouldn't call light? Jamming a flail before it hits you so it merely taps you lightly ISN'T a legitimate tactic in a tournament why?

Honor? So there is far more honor to be gained by joining in the crowd and chorus of BOOS?

Spyn's fighting and shot calibration looked completely legit. Let me guess, most people there knew he was in Amtgard?

actually ramius most people had no idea he was amptgard. People were booing because they look like solid shots because he is blocking the chain of the flail. He was also going against one of the few GtG some people like, and that i think had a lot to do with it. People booed Rune in the final of the four horsemen tourney because at the angle they were at it looked like he had blown off a shot. It had traveled acrossed his body and hit his far leg and two shields were in the way. That didn't stop people saying ****. This after Shades blatent cheating vs the other GtG team.

I don't understand how such a big deal can be made of this and nothing is said about the bigger tourney anywhere. Ohh thats right gotta speak good about the aratari no matter what but everyone else is vunerable to attack.

No Varadin, that's not true. Look in the "Good, Bad and Ugly" thread. Lots of comments about one GtG team cheating against the other. Allegedly. I didn't see either fight, but heard plenty about both while at the event - and people seemed to be appalled at the intra-unit cheating as much as the wargod final.

And until Spyn posted the video and loudly proclaimed his innocence, nobody had mentioned his name, unit, the game he came from, etc. In general, most people seemed to like the Sol Invictus folks and had good things to say about them in private to me when I asked - but a common thread was "except for that one guy" who was unnamed.

Personally, I hate the name wargod for that tourney - it seems to bring out the thickest skin sometimes. Then again, I'm not a tourney fan but understand that others like them. Yes Dagorhir and Belegarth do have hit calibration, but like in the SCA there's hit calibration and then there's HIT CALIBRATION. Your millage may vary.

For what it's worth, if I (a herlad) had been given the authority, I would have booted both GtG teams out of the tournament for flagrant misconduct, and made the Serenity/Senegal-Dragoon match the final, because quite frankly it was a lot more interesting.

I had stood about ten feet away, just outside the left side of the camera view. The shots had PLENTY of sufficient force. Not only in that fight, but many others.

Do I know anything about Spyn? nope. Do I really know anything about Erikos? also nope.

But the fight was ri-cock-ulous, as were many of the tourny fights.

and now that i'm done "fuming" if you will...

I agree about Serenity vs: Dragoons. MUCH more interesting fight. Wishin' Serenity won it, but aw well. It was a good fight.

On the up side, there was a LOT of very good, clean fighting. Just some instances that had cast a shadow on the experience. Had a blast, though, even if I did lose my shield and the paleness of my skin. :D

1. Flowerpatch Boys vs. Serenity would have been much more interesting. Those dudes were rolling teams over and Shade's team should have been booted for cheating. A lot. Just goes to show heralds should be allowed to do their jobs, call shots.
2. I certainly had no idea he was part of the crossover team until I read his post on the Dag boards. Nor would I have cared. The people in Amtgard that just fight are quite good at what they do. It's just the lightning bolt kids that are overtly uncool. I only wish Rag was longer so I could have gotten around to finding their camp since they arrived in the middle of the week.
3. I do understand what everyone is getting at with shot calibration, but I heard him get hit more than twice. There's a difference between calling light and me not hearing a shot and then calling light while I hear a loud THWACK!

Spyn wasn't part of any team that attended Rag. He came on his own and fought with Ed, Peter the Quick and one other guy who's name escapes me.

Spyn and crew arrived Sunday I believe. Sol Invictus arrived Monday. Not sure where you were camped, but we (SI) were camped directly below weapons check so we were pretty much there for the entire event.

Here is a pic of us from SI who attended (minus Heydeeze, Sarah, and Thorvald) all dirty, worn out, and generally needing clean clothes, a bath, and some food.
Image
The guy with the mohawk (last guy on the left...not Quynn who is female) is generally our elitist prick * representitive for the group. :D Everyone else is pretty chill. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't the nameless one who was the exception. Then again, I'm a pretty big *, so could have been me too! :frog: Or maybe TuSocks/Eru... she's an *. And well, Big Head... he's an * with that pole... or maybe Goldenrod, nah, he just speaks flurb too fluently and was overworked at Rag. :)

As for the tournies... I missed the round where the crowd booed Spyn, everyone from Amtgard that was there told me he had sluffed pretty bad and gotten booed. The boos I heard all the way down the back 40 road where I was coming from during the tourney. Must have been the sluff(s) heard round the world to cause that reaction. Never seen (or heard) anything quite like that at any foam fighting tourney before.

The guys who fought against their own unit and repeatedly sluffed I did catch. Wow that was pretty bad. The only thing worse was the final four teams all using flails and war boards. It was like watching a whole group of little league teams go to the world series. :fingers:

We all had an excellent time and loved the event. By far the best larg field fighting any of us have done (we all agree) outside of the SCA and plan on making it back next year. If we can only pick one Dag/Bel event a year to attend, this one will be it. It was great.

I said it before and I'll say it again, the SI crew was a good bunch of guys and gals whom I very much look forward to seeing again. And you also have great garb--I hope you've inspired other Dag groups to make distinctive, colorful gear and stand out better on the field.

But lose the catcher pads!
