SCA leather gauntlets

Postby Forkbeard » Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:40 am

I've seen some in person and talked to Cedric about them, but I need more info.
I've been looking a lots of sca event pics this morning and I noticed a whole lot of people wearing them. I really like the new, supposedly "period" type as opposed to the old leather-copy-of-the-steel type.
I have a bunch of 14 oz. sole bend and I want to make some gauntlets.
Can anyone help me out with the patterns or hook me up with the contact info on somebody who makes them? Maybe before I get antsy and start **** up material?
Thanks

Very nice, but both of these are the copies of steel gauntlets.
I'm looking for the other kind. The are closed up mittens with padding inside.

And I do not know the gentleman nor am affiliated in anyway with him ..But I really like the look of them for earlier period guys...I think I need to contact Sir Bart and see how they stand up in combat...

Hope this helps...

Not my style ,but if it keeps your fingers in working order I'm All for them.

I use Basket Hilts ,nothing safer.
But you cant use a basket on a greatsword or a spear.

As far as the account at AA Make a new one.

WTH, I dropped the $25 and got the pattern. I'm through with the outer, working on the padding portion of them now. They'll be bulky, but a lot classier than my MMA gloves.

Fork, you should message the designer directly, he is in your area.

I've been going to their practice and hangin out with him.
He's a really talented guy in the sewing leather stuff department. He has some awesome ****.
I've been hanging around absorbing ideas and finishing my kit. I've changed lanes and started making steel gauntlets after looking at the leather one up close.Don't get me wrong, they are great and I'm going to make some for single hand sword so I don't need a bastket hilt. But they aren't really meant for use all the time with great weapons, which is what I do. I also weld for a living, which means NOT breakin my hands one vacation, so's I can go back to work afterward.
Magnus bought me a air planisher for my birthday ( I know, cool, huh?)and I already had all the dishes and ball hammers I need from making leather armor, so the plate project is going very well. I have most of 2 pairs cut out and I'm going to start shaping them next week. I'm polishing and padng the helmet hopefully tomorrow.
