In a recent raid, the Frostbrew (FB) and Frostlands Line Proper (FLP) achieved some good line tactics because we have been drilling for about 2 years now on it. The FLP is still stuck in the triple rank routine, but they are competent and mobile enough to make it work, despite archery, magic, and no shield bashing/charging. The FB try such tactics as the wedge, and echelon left and right maneuvers to guide the enemy into a kill sack, and they fell for it every time, even when they tried to toilet bowl. It's all about occupying the ground, and controlling the enemy's movement.

We crushed the enemy, and we have found that the other groups have begun practicing line tactics as a result, and have handily spanked us in a few outnumbered skirmishes later on using these tactics.

In conclusion: FROSTBREWWW!!! KILL SACK!!! FROSTBREEEEWWW!! KILL SACK!

Kind of a derail, but there a lot of ways you can fix **** res battles.

- Limit the number of times an individual can resurrect so that there's an eventual end to the scenario and less general flailing
- Establish a death count. Even better, just have the dead resurrect at the same time (like at 100 second intervals). People can take a water break and reorganize their teams.
- God forbid there should be a scenario involved (king of the hill, capture the flag, bridge battle)

But I imagine res battles happen the way they do because people enjoy them for whatever reason or they're just the status quo.

At major Dagorhir events we never do just straight resurrection battles. They make everyone tired and no one happy. We always use scenarios, like holding areas to score points, advancing the line of battle into enemy territory, capturing flags, and of course a "death tax" battle (the team that gets killed the most loses).

Getting foam groups to do unit level tactics isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Translation for truth....

Ditch FTW! F the magic, F the projectiles, F the toilet bowl. Get down with the Ditch! The one thing I'd like to see in ditching is red weapon effects on shields.
If you want to see ditching at 4 a.m. come to World Banner Wars in Oct in Tejas. Its off the farken hook. Fast, pipe swingin fools.

I am the instrutor liason for SKBC and I came here to post a quick SKBC update but the discussion of team fighting was almost more interesting. Still, I will post what I came for.

Just a teaser. I have invited over 30 of Amtgtard's best fighters to instruct and an addtional three instructors from Belegarth to come as guest instructors. The three invites from Bel are well known in their organiztions and have been vetted by at least one member of the FWACK organizing committee. I dont expect all of these people to be able to show but I am sure we will have a great instructor team.

I will be finalizing the instructor list this week and next and we will hammer out a schedule the weekend of the 24th. Give our web master one week from then to get the site up and running and you will be able to register before the end of January. When that happens I will post a link here as well since we welcome participation from all foam fighters.

I keep trying to convince people up here to go, and they keep saying that its all tap fighting and they don't care to learn bad habits. Gotta love stereotypes that are wrong.

I wouldn't worry about it overmuch. Your average Belegarthian hits harder than your average Amtgardian in the eastern area. The core Texas fighters hit as hard (and harder, in some cases) than your average Belegarthian. The skills, however, are universally applicable no matter how hard you are swinging.

I recommend coming down, learning some good stuff, and adapting it to best suit your needs.

And then school the crap out of the people who didn't go and make fun of them for missing out ;)

KY is my ancestral home. I'm there during breaks. CT is where I'm (hopefully) getting my doctorate.

Then I can get the heck back out of this cold-ass place.

But naw, if I was in KY at the time, I'd definitely make it to Ohio for a badass event. But Ohio's like an 11 hour drive from CT.

I'm 80% sure I'll be able to go!
So, this will be my first time at SKBC, so what should I expect?
Does it cost extra to bunk in the lodge vs setting up a tent?

there are only 2 days of classes. Are the classes on Fri/Sat and thurs/Sun are used as set up/tear down days?

is it recommended to fill all time slots each day? or should one plan an empty 'break' time slot?

sorry I sound like a 5 year old with all these questions!

yea thursday and sunday are arrive and tear down days

Take the classes you wanna take. there will be sparing and pickup battles (ditching) all day everyday.

i don't know about the lodge vs tent deal, brennen or micheal could probably answer that question for you

The posts I have seen indicate there is limited lodge space, camping space and hotels nearby. The hotels obviously will cost more. As I read the details there is no extra cost for camping/lodge.
Take a class every slot, to maximize your bang for the buck. There is a bit of time between classes and time for ditching around lunch time.
The event autocrate and crew will be handling site prep issues.

Make a post on the ESam SKBC forum for more details.

That isn't what kingdom YOU are from, that is what kingdom RANDALL is from. It's just a security feature to prevent spam bots from posting on the forum. The answer (Dragonspine) is to the left of the box in parenthesis.

for 'location', you can put anything you want.

The real risk is that since they are both teaching, Amtgarders like me might learn something new and useful. That could really endanger the world.

We can only teach you how to shield rake people, edge them in the chest, kick them to the ground, hit with excessive force, and not take light shots.

Your new favorite weapon combination will be fury and fear.

Prepare to be a God.

Is there anyone from Columbus that's going to SKBC for sure? Winfang mentioned that Madog might be going but I'd like to confirm.

I'm asking because I'm probably going to be flying into CMH Thursday night and I was hoping I could catch a ride from somebody. Shoot me a PM if you can help me out.

Thanks,
