Wow, that is slick.

You say you're working on it still -- are you planning to do more to it?

I bet a metal edging full of bolts would help it match and look that much more awesome.

The metal work is quite well done.
If that was my shield, I would have a hard time taking it into the field. I would probably be too concerned with people damaging it to use it effectively as a shield!

Yes its a kite shield more byzantine than western europe our sca house von Drakenklaue. in the East kingdom is a byzantine household. The device is a mixture of two devices of our house,It is by no means heraldically correct.but it looks cool.

You are correct. But my (limited) understanding of the rules is no aggressive shield work (edging, bashing, etc.). I know there's no way to enforce this in huge field battles, I'd think in tourney's it'd be explicitly illegal. Any validation to my thoughts?

it is against the rule to use the edge of the sheild to strike an opponent
As for enforcing the rules on the field you might get away with a shield punch once or twice. But then you get these big old targets painted on all your legal but unarmoured parts and the guys you hit and their buddies are going to aim for em.when guys get a reputation for doing stuff like that its hard to live down.
anyway I straped it up today and it has a sweet balance, also a lot lighter then my 1/2" plywood kite. Istill have to get edgeing for it I am going to go with the edge trimm Windrose sells.

Yeah, Sol, you can push or shield-strike peoples' weapons and shields, so you can actually push around opposing shieldmen.

Shield work is an art unto itself, one I have yet to master. yet I find a kite is an easier shield to use than a heater or round.for a unit the kite shield provides more economical coverage than either heater or round and is lighter and more manuverable than scutums or the big 3'X4' barn doors some units use to make themselves immobile. In singles it provides great coverage in both max weapons reach and in close.
Anyway I straped it up after my knight E-mailed my a picture of the back of his as refferenceDuke Lucan's been King in the East like 7 or 8 times so I figure he should know shields .The template was his too sized to my dimensions.
I found a broken egg armoury brown kydex gauntlet and mounted it onto the shield handle in place of the shield baskets we are required to have here in trimaris I lined the gauntlet with sheepskin wool side towards my hand as padding and from 10 feet in looks like a sheepskin leather gauntlet , it works for padding bazubands and greaves as well.
next is the edge trim which I still have to buy.
