I responded after that saying that it was good to know that I could now be banned just for trying to help a new member acclimate painlessly and then all of the comments from mine to Lykos' last post were deleted.

i was told i was unbanned with the switch to the new boards. all 3 of my accounts are still banned/rebanned who knows i just go there to look at events and armor.

First bann- Posted when going to college asking if anything was in the Detroit area. No response a month later, made an angry post saying i was gona just find a bele group. This one made sense

second bann- Posted like twice came back and was banned like 4 years after the first bann

third bann- Was told my polearm made of blue foam on the striking surface wasnt real or safe and there was no way it passed. I took a picture of it with its cover off and with the rag 22 sticker on it to come back to a warning that was actually a bann.

Y'know, I was actually kind of hopeful when they rolled out the new boards and unblocked everybody. I thought "Hey, I'm in a Dag realm, they've kind of cleared the slate, I'll go try to be a good citizen and participate and follow their silly rules and try to get along."

... and then they went nuts.

Is it better to walk on eggshells and try to support the sport as a whole by broadening communication and building bridges, or just let them stew in their own little backwaters and hope someday somehow there's a revolution and the sensible people seize hold of the BoD?

Seeing Magnus' post in that deleted thread, I feel sorry for those on the other side of the divide, firmly commited to Dag but who can see that the Emperor's got no clothes and can't say anything or do anything to fix it.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to keep trying to adhere to their rules. As I've said before, their rules are their rules. If they keep being draconian and basically enforcing whatever arbitrary rules they want, hopefully eventually more people will realize that their game is actually being hurt by such ridiculous policies.

Your vulgarity in support of righteousness and freedom makes me grin.

I'll be counting on you and other Dag/Bel Freedom Fighters to keep anyone who bounces into the New Members forum looking for CT fighters pointed towards me and Anvard until this all blows over (which is what I think will occur).

Kinda silly to block read-access to the forums for banned logins. Unless read-access is off for all non-members, it should be really easy to bypass...

That said, the more people get banned for being perfectly cordial, helpful and rules abiding, the more the general Dagorhir populace will realize how ridiculous it is.

Arrakis - You can easily get by the read ban. I see you've got the Tor plugin - just use that. Make sure you delete your dagorhir.com cookies first though, just in case.

I've stayed out of the Dag bashing for the most part, not because I agree with what they do on their boards, but simply because it's counter-productive. For those of you who genuinely want to move beyond this sophomoric, partisan crap, there's already a group of us trying.

I proudly wear the belt flag. I have too many good friends who fight Dag to just write them off as "those other guys". Sorry if this sounds like self-righteous *, I really don't mean it that way. I just wanted to call attention to an established group, since this seemed like a good spot to do it.

All that said, that is some *, Arrakis. This Lykos guy seems to really have it in for Belegrim. I hope this resolves itself well for you.

After the new boards came up I posted like two posts and was banned. Then I got posting privalges back thanks to Blackhawk, Jari, Oberon and Alric. But apparently Dominus didn't know that and now I'm perma-banned again. Whatever. I still made a **** rad map for the benefit of that game and I'm going to continue building it because I'm better than them.
Yeah, Lykos is a AIDS snorting chode. I can't wait to ruin his Ragnarok with shield bashes and javelin shots.
Okay, maybe I'm not above doing what they are.

Everyone who only does Belegarth needs to stop giving a * what Dominus and his mods are doing today, and start caring about what Belegarth does tomorrow.

I stick around for the garb threads & events info (before it turns into a circle-jerk of who's going and how awesome last year was). When they decide to tear down that Berlin wall (Reagan smash!), I'm sure Dom will spin in his grave.

I just want to promote events to get people to come to them.

Maybe because they knew about the exposure they were going to get from Wrecreation Nation, they choose to tighten up because of getting new recruitment and being more harsh on many cross fighters.

and then you read peters post where hes trying to help and people are defending him and yet he is still banned(i believe). Which makes the mods look like tools makes the game look bad in general. Cracking down helps on troll and people who are being worthless. But just banning people because they are in a Bele realm or mention the other games is just stupid.

I agree that bele should focus on bele and dag on dag but we are all cross gamers to an extent and this is the only forum where we can all talk freely with people who understand where we are coming from shrugging off anger leads to postal workers.. well you know

Brennon, the simple fact is that I have a lot of time and energy invested in Dagorhir and trying to make it the best it can be, time and energy that I can't afford to waste. If I got banned from the board again (they already banned me once, and like most people I did not commit a material breach of the rules except by a considerable stretch of the imagination) it would basically make me totally unable to effectively a.) represent my realm in the position of Chapter Representative, b.) communicate with many friends whom I don't see all that often, c.) organize events or offer suggestions for same, and d.) share information about fighting skills, garb designs, armor construction, and more, all things that I feel are important to making Dagorhir a successful organization and are important for helping others to enjoy the game more fully.

I could still post such things here, on eSam, and on the Armour Archive, but while I have participated in and will continue to participate in Belegarth, Amtgard, and SCA, I have been primarily a Dagorhir fighter for seven years now and really can't afford to throw away the primary avenue I have for sharing and receiving information about Dagorhir.

So, essentially, I put up with it because I don't have another practical choice.

Also, it really * me off that Arrakis has been banned, not just because it was for arbitrary and uncalled-for reasons, but also because he is now (or was, anyway) the most active participant online, and is still the most active participant in real life, in the Dagorhir realm that I founded seven and a half years ago. I had hoped that, with the few new New England-area recruits that were popping up, Arrakis would be able to help revitalize the realm and make it grow so that its battles would go from the half-dozen who usually show up to something in the 20+ range, like it was when I ran it from 2001 to 2004. But, now that he is banned and is officially not even supposed to be able to read the board, all of the energy that he might have brought to a flagging realm will not be able to get used as effectively.

So, Lykos' moderation has actively harmed a Dagorhir realm in real life. Great. We spend all this time worrying about some sort of competing foam organization's conspiracy to destroy us, and then we actively hinder our own ability to grow. Just **** great.

I just realized:

The Dag boards are where I go to snag newbs for Anvard (a Dag Chapter, nobody flip out, I'm not poaching zomg) and give general advice to people who don't know how to sew, foamsmith, strap a shield, etc. I try to help the new masses.

The Bel boards are where I come to ask for advice, talk about things, and discuss rules and techniques with good veteran fighters from every sport and other mid-level cats who want to learn. Since most people of note in any of at least Bel and Dag and some of Amt know about and spend time on this board, this is * near a one-stop shop, unless you're looking for 14-16 year-old newbs to swell the ranks of your realm or to selflessly teach them and help them have a good time foamfighting.

Huh.

Anyway, I'm meeting with a guy going by Brewhammer from near Avacronia territory on Sunday to spar some and get him a feel for the combat, then, next Saturday, I'm rollin' up/over to Dur Dagnir, a new unit of Anvard made up of 14-15 year-olds to help them get a more solid feel for the level of combat and hit strength present on your typical Dag field/teach them to check weapons/make weapons better/sew garb. So, still fightin' the good fight, an' all that.

Except to stand up for what you believe to be right, and to either be banned and quit the org, or make the changes you want to see. If you do get banned, you can always join some other game. It wont stop you from using other resources to get game info, geez, almost all teh Dag events are cross posted here, so all you would need is an e-mail list of the people you like.

Nothing will ever change without revolutionaries, and those people have to rock the boat.

That said, I don't really care about Dag anymore, other than I think you Dag people should stand up for what you believe to be right. I want to make belegarth the best it can be. I believe our organization has great potential for growth, and fun. I choose to support only Bel, and I will let Dag strangle themselves.

Soo, the world isn't always that black and white.

Especially considering that the policies of Dagorhir boards don't really represent the views of the vast majority of the members of Dagorhir, they represent the views of a very small minority.

Holding the boards, and the actions and paranoia of the mods thereof, against all of Dagorhir is counterproductive. Dagorhir isn't about the web boards, just as Belegarth isn't about these boards. It's about the game, the events, the people, the friends, the fighting. Unfortunately, the internet policies enforced by the a few people undermine the effectiveness of a resource that could be used more effectively by the whole.

But quitting Dagorhir entirely because you don't like Dominus' internet policies is somewhat ridiculous, because it should be so much more than that.

I tried to log onto the Dag board tonight when I got home and was met with the You have been banned and it's not set to expire message. Huh... wonder what I did. As far as I know, I didn't break any board rules. I thought I was having a nice conversation over there too. :axed:
