My French is very rusty but it's kind of like a French version of Darkon with more LARP appeal, which is common for Europe. Participants must be 16. I couldn't find a rulebook, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. They also have their own land.

*Edit* I'll be damned, it's Canadian... and hosts an event which rivals Ragnarok on a cooler site.

Eh, not so much. Standards, guys.

I'm not sure what's up with them, but I know bicolline was mentioned towards the end of the bad LARP pics thread, and was getting some love for being pretty legit. Someone who posted over there is bound to know what's up, if you go send a few pm's.

Bicolline is based in Quebec, and from what I can tell, is pretty awesome. They don't hit as hard as we do or do the rough stuff we do, but on the other hand they don't have character classes or magic or anything. And their site has tons of permanent structures, including a tavern, an inn, a tournament field, houses, a viking ship, a fortress, and bridges and rivers and such. Plus, it seems that most of them have absolutely kickass garb.

No comment on the women.

We'd also would love to go, we seen that up last year on a website. We couldn't make it though.
Actually to think of it we have something called KANAR right by us. They are in a forest and have structures all over the place, like a tavern, castle, and gates. Its really cool. Their website is www.kanar.org One problem is that they have a 89 page booklet all filled with Magic. It was a dread memorizing it all.
Also it is not as far as Quebec. That event and the Ren. fair is what made us go into fighting or larping.
In the middle ages, people took potions for their ailments.
In the 19th century they took snake oil.
Citizens of today's shiny, technological age are too modern for that.
They take antioxidants and extract of cactus instead.

It'll probly be nxt year for me, Mary and Him, but we're down.
You know what would be cool? To charter a bus or something. Then we could actually raid them as a team.

Looks like next year it is! That'll give anyone else who wants to go ample time to get it into their schedule (as long as it doesn't interfere with Chaos).

Dudes, those chicks are French-Canadians. Focus.

Also, cruising foreign LARPs for hot chicks is only mildly less creepy than facebook stalking your own kind. For cereal.

Is there something wrong with women in Canada? You might want to talk to the Thunder Bay folks about that...

Besides, the photos of ladies I found while looking at their fighting pictures were pretty tasteful in my opinion.

There are a couple of the Darkon guys I am friends with that go to that big event every year. They say it is awesome, even if the combat isn't as rough as you might want. Darkon has a comparable hit calibration to ours, so I trust their opinions on what my perception of this event might be. It is one of the things on my "bucket list" list for swordfighting. (One of the others is to hit a big Euro event.)

I would love to visit one of Bicolline's events, it would be even better to do so as part of a Belegarth group.
If this is planned for next year, count me in!

Forkbeard's idea of renting a bus sounds very good, but it would need a central location to depart from. Just let me know where the bus will be and I'll find a way to get there (might even find a way to drag a few corsairs along for the trip!)

My wife understands a bit of french, she may be able to translate their rules for us to read if there's anyone interested.

We could also caravan some rv's. I may have a line on one that could take 10 or 12 people, depending on gear. We would be wise to contact them ahead of time, make some friends with the cool kids and just borrow weapons. We could all meet somewhere in the midwest and go into the great white north as one mighty force.
Honestly, I just like the idea of going to foreign lands and kicking * with all of you people.
I big * double decker party bus would be way cooler, though. Maybe it could leave from Denver or somewhere.

Maybe we could all fly to Canada, and rent a huge van from the airport ?

That makes bringing camping gear tough though...

But we have over a year to plan for this.

I agree that we should start contacting them now about visiting in 2010

Is driving across or flying across the American border harder? If you drove up, you could pick up thunder guard on the way.

Denver to Quebec is a long drive though.

From the Darkon unit Elidor who take 20 odd people up there every year I have heard it may be the coolest thing ever. The hitting is finally beginning to approach our level, the first few years they got yelled at for hitting too hard... I have watched their videos and seen their pictures, that game kicks *! I would love to go there some time... so cool. I wonder if the fact that you have a hard time communicating with anyone would make it seem even more cool and medievally... Like you are in another world.

Actually, the weapons in the OP photo don't look that bad. Maybe their tech is improving.

Still, I think this would be a great excuse for me to make a latex sword or two.

I'm so in for 2010!
Maybe they'll change my opinion of French-Canadians!

My french is minuscule and rusty, but I got along fine in France with it.

It will take about 11.5 hrs from Detroit

I might be able to talk some of my SCA household into going too, I'm sure their armor would at least pass.

yet one more thing for me to be geeked about!

Don't forget to bring Edhellen info to the Canadians. If their weapons still suck, I'm sure Kegg wouldn't mind doing business with them.

I'm not really interested in promoting a business whose products I wouldn't use myself. But I'm sure that someone else who is could do that.

Generally speaking, though, Edhellen weapons weigh just about, if not more than, the maximum allowed weapon weight for Bicolline--for example, a 90cm/35in sword needs to weigh 500g/17oz or less for it to be legal in their game
