Chicagoland anythings?

Postby Tails » Wed Jul 22, 2009 5:43 pm

So I have been looking to supplement my fighting with some other forms of fighting, but have found few leads on other things in my area and having those leads all lead to dead ends or infinite loops. I don't care what it is, I'm willing to try it, but every place I have looked for things other then belegarth and dag have just turned up disappointment because it is nowhere near Chicago.

Can someone help point me in the direction of other Fighting. I'll check out anything from nero to SCA.

There are some great SCA fighters in the Chicago land area.

They have a couple of practices during the week in different areas. Here is a map...

Once Pennsic is over, I'm going to head up to a Sunday SCA Raven's Lake (Antioch/Waukegan, IL) practice with my dance instructor, who's a regular member. Anyone from Bel make it up/out there on a regular basis?

....no, Tobin.
According to their website, the practice site they use is literally within 5 minutes of my house. Never heard any info about them in the community. Weird.

Is that "no, I won't be there," or "no, Tobin, don't go"? ;)

No, I won't be there.
Although it's still really weird to me that there is 0 community advertisement. Tell them to get out there and advertise! Civil War reenactment things are pretty popular in the town, so I would expect SCA to be, too.

I really dont think the Chicago land SCA does not promote themselves enough. What I have heard is that they are trying to correct this. Unfortunately most of the SCA groups that I have been apart of spend most of their resources on its current members. The SCA as a whole is seeing the results of this with a decrease in membership. I think as an organization they are trying new ways to recruit people.
