With Dag people getting all butthurt on the boards about some nonsense, or with some asshat Dag fighter failing gear for a rule that doesn't exist at Weapons Check?

That entire thread is filled with dumb, but at least there are some people who seem to understand the way the universe works...

Brennon im one of the Head weapons checkers for rag next year. As the rules are right now you cant fail a club for being under 3 inches wide. As long as it passes hit and template test you are fine.

I know people will try to change it next year at RWC but it will get shot down. The majority of the guys on the boards for Dagorhir are not in a voting positions so their rambleing on the boards means nothing. All it does is portray a negative image of Dagorhir to the internet.

Correct me if I am worng, though. Even if they will pass at Rag, local Dag parks have considerable atonomy and if local parks really dont like round blades there isnt any real reason for them not to bar them?

Local parks can always have their own rules. Normally its something odd that needs to be explained. IE here in Einherjar we have throwing axes that count as a blue/white(kinda dumb kinda fun). We also make sure people use minimum force. But moving away from national weapon standards tends to * people off and while done is normally held to a minimum. Only place i know of that changes anything is Rivendell who allow all weapons weight instead of weighing anything.

Something I just can't get past here...if the striking surface is ~round~....it's not a **** sword, no matter what you want to call it, it's a **** club!!

Sorry, Rant over.

Edited for flaming...I guess I still have issues with Dag politics.

As Varadin stated, it was a more-or-less silly discussion on the Dag boards where the majority of Dag fighters did not think there was/is a problem = this is a non-issue. Sure, one can pull it out and post on these boards that even having such a discussion is a *sure sign* of Dag's stupidity (which I would disagree with), but posting and discussing such a non-issue on these boards is also rather dumb. But hey, I just contributed. Just remember, we are all foam-swinging dorks.

I just came back from badon hill and asked the guy in charge of weapons check at rag next year what his take on it was.

He said that since there is no difference in the dag rules between a club and a sword(a blue is a blue is a blue type deal) that ALL weapons must be 3 inches.

While i do not totally agree with this I understand where he is coming from and that next year at Ragnarok if you come i suggest you bring a 3 inch wide round blade or a Flat blade.

Is there a formal process to this, or is it just up to random people?

The head weapons checker is chosen each year at rag for the next years rag. At every other event its normally appointed by someone who is well respected in the realm that is running it. At Rag its done by the Rag War council, each realm gets a seat on the council and its always about how rag is run. To be a realm you have to go through greymael and get approved on location and such.

Its all on how that person reads the rules and what they think. Laithe runs a great weapons check at rag and thus was appointed again this next year. Im quite sure pleanty of round blades will get through check less then 3 inches. He can't go outright and fail things that are with the rules but he clarify grey areas. Less then 3 inch clubs are a grey area by the rules.

In other words, stay tuned.

Laithe (and crew) DOES run a great and safe weapons check, but these sorts of gray areas are sometimes resolved by the weapons checkers or a "higher authority" tells them how to handle such weapons. Rag is a long way off and I strongly suspect this "issue" will be resolved well before Rag, but for now, bringing a club less than 3" in diameter to a Dag event (like one-sided weapons, I think 2.5" should be the minimum diameter, as for the thrusting tip rules) is iffy.
