EMP event

Start Time: Friday, January 29, 2010 at 8:00am
End Time: Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 9:55pm
Location: Gaston and Judith's home
Street: 10624 Buck Road
City/Town: Orlando, FL

Florida's first ever EMP event. It will be a Roman holiday themed event.

There is lots of tent space, very close hotels nearby, and some indoor crash space. Technically, there is also cave crash space, because our house has a rather spacious crawl space, but you might wake up with our black snake cuddled up to you.

For our out of town guests; Florida weather is mild and dry during winter, if tenting do bring some warm stuff as the temp has dipped below freezing last 2 winters in a row.

We are working on a feast for nighttime.

Here are some videos if ya dont know what it is...

If I recall correctly, they'll let you fight in quite a bit less than the SCA requires.

It's the other way around with EMP. The combat rules are much more lax about how you may engage your opponent, so the armor requirements are much more strict.

Yeah, they require you to pad more of yourself, but you can use bluefoam for most of your armor...

I mean, me either. I like having all my bones connected in their current logical order and I'm perfectly satisfied with the number of them I possess. I was just sayin'.

Also, I must assume that Orso is the guy in the green Uruk armor?

Since this is Roman-themed, will there be circuses and orgies?

What the hell are you guys swinging? That isn't rattan, and it doesn't look like plastic. Metal replicas? Cool as hell, either way.

These guys are doing a totaly different style of combat from Bel or SCA.
They use a 3 hit system. Also, there are some extra rules like stabs to the side of the helm don't count, but punches and kicks do eventualy.
You can't hear it on the tape but they ate either acknowedling good hits of saying "light" alot. I've heard that on vid before, anyway.
There is alot more to this combat than we can see from the tapes.
I love it. You guys are bad *.
Physic, your kit looks **** sick.
Orso, you are a beast. Your stuff is in the mail.

Yeah I understand that. Definitely not hating on EMP, but, the weapons they look like wood and metal, wouldn't **** your **** up on your unarmored portions?

You'd be surprised. I fight without armor on my upper arms for SCA. Worst I've got is a bruise the size of a half-dollar. You're gonna get bruised to **** doing this, but you're (probably) not gonna break anything just getting hit. If you look at his Facebook, Physic posted a picture of himself afterwards. It looks like he's wearing a *' purple shirt.
You'll notice that most of the guys fighting are wearing a ton of armor. Physic and Orso are just nuts, and tend to go for minimum necessary armor. Hell, these guys http://cunnan.sca.org.au/wiki/Tuchuk fight without shirts on at wars. ****'s ridiculous.

I know what you're saying. From talking to Physic about this, he started off with a full kit, then just slowly removed pieces where his defense made the unneccisary. Like the upper shield arm (taking a guess), since your shield is there, probably doesn't get hit very often, so don't really need the armor. Likewise, why doesn't the other person hit there? Well me might swing there, but it's where physic's D is strong.

EMP: The Belegarth of the SCA.

Brutality is a skill all its own.

So many things change when you are doing this type of fighting. This is the only style of combat where your physical attributes play a major role in the outcome of a fight. Fighting with counted blows also help the bigger aggressive fighters. You can be a terrible sword fighter in EMP and if you know how to grapple, you can kick some butt.

At the event the SCA stick skill was very much there. There were at least 5 Dukes and about 10 other Knights. There was only a handful of us that were unbelted in the SCA.

Slagar wrote:What the hell are you guys swinging? That isn't rattan, and it doesn't look like plastic. Metal replicas? Cool as hell,
either way.

All of the weapons except for the flails are made from rattan. Your just not used to seeing people that actually care about how there weapons look. Duke Aveloc is the one that made most of the weapons. He has a reputation for producing awesome looking stuff. When your in Chicago again you should check out the weapons that Nissan makes. He does a really good job as well.

There isnt much of a response to this other then you will have to try it and see. If you come to Ragnaroc in Seattle this year I would make sure that you would have some loaner gear to use. I will even cover the cost of the event for you if you come out. You could also bring some Bel weapons and we could swing some foam around. I guarantee you would not be disappointed with the level of skill that is out there.

This pretty much answered my questions, that's why I didn't feel the need to respond.

EMP definitely looks like a blast, I'll see if alexii wants to come too. Seattle isn't that far away. What are the dates/location for Ragnaroc?

Edit:
June 2-June 6, 2010.
Camano Island State Park, WA

Ok yeah I decided to find it myself. No promises, June is ripe for business traveling in my biz so I'll have a definite "maybe".

Yeah I talked to him last night and he is down pending money at the time, I mean he used to fight SCA and everything so its not that huge of a leap. Bigger leap for me though as I have not fought in the SCA, but I am down to try new things... and I want to punch the **** out of people with a metal gauntlet :)

by Orso,
This will be amusing...

The more the merrier, just remember to bring your big kid pants.

We went shirtless cuz we wanted to look as gladiator as possible, bruises, blood, and scars be dammed. Most of the SCA guys, mostly dukes and knights mind you, thought we where a little off our rockers. How does it go "Pain fades(kinda), chicks dig scars(hell yes they do), but glory (and youtube vids) last forever!"

that being said my SCA kit actually has less armor but more cloth, i wear no shoulder armor and less leg armor, with the only addition being a duck cloth t-tunic.

heh

Anyway, is EMP mostly (if not all) 1v1 duels? that seems to be all the videos show

The format for Ragnaroc is Wed. is setup and pickups. Thursday is the tourney fighting to determine the Gods for each of the melees. Friday and Saturday are melee battles all day. Those include several scenarios in different locations. On the beach there is an open melee, bridge battle and boat battle. In the woods there is an open wood battle with regen, hill battle and one other that I cannot remember. Saturday night finishes the fighting with the Ring of Fire. This year we are also trying to get a game of Blood Bowl EMP style going on. Im excited about this. It should be brutal.

Melee in EMP is crazy. Fighting to counted blows gets pretty hardcore in a melee scenario. Add in the invulnerable Gods and it can get pretty intense.
