Dag - Ides of March - March 11 (thurs) - 14, Bowdon, GA

Postby Athron » Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:32 pm

This is hopefully relevant to your foam-fighting interests. This event has come a long way since its inception 4 years ago (thanks Sir Kirin for helping to birth it!), and keeps getting better and better each year. Good fighting, fun nightlife, and some of the most fun people of Dag migrate to Ides to kick off the camping season.

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!

Dagorhir's Season-Opening National Campout is back for a FOURTH year! Oh, and since its our FOURTH year, we figured its time to make this event FOUR days, Thursday through Sunday! Get ready to shake off the rust from the colder months and make the trip down into the warmer lands of the South!

The High Spires, along with the always-appreciated assistance from our southern allies Greyglade, Albion, and Sage Hill is proud to bring you this wonderful event. Every year The Ides of March has been filled with some of the most fun personalities and best fighters Dagorhir has to offer. Come for the fighting, stay for the camaraderie! We were nearly 200 strong last year, and with some extra guests invited out to Ides this year we are estimating a count between 250 and 300 this year!

Fighting will rage from Thursday afternoon well into the night (in the lighted and spacious pull barn). Friday will be a series of shake-off-the-winter-rust scenarios designed to ignite your hibernating warrior spirit. Saturday will be filled with a blend of woods-based and field-based scenarios that are sure to test the mettle of any fighter. Finally, after two days of unbelieveable combat, a feast will be held so that the shared victory of all attendees can be shared around a delicious meal. And if that wasn't enough, Saturday night will be filled with laughter and cheers as all attendees take their chances against Lady Luck during the Medieval Casino Night!

But don't take my word for it... get that carpool ready and come see for yourself why Ides of March is becoming a season-opening rite of passage for Dagorhir fighters across the nation!

Date and Times:
Troll Opens - THURSDAY, March 11 * Noon
Event Concludes - SUNDAY, March 14 * early afternoon

Location:
Red Horse Stables (front of site)
Dragon Hills Retreat (back of site, our spot!)
2800 W Highway 5
Bowdon, GA 30108
Dragon Hills Phone: 770-258-0863

Google Map Link
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 11&iwloc=A

Cost:
Cost for This Event is $20, this cost includes a Saturday Night Feast by Momma and Papa (the fine folks feeding us at past Ides of March, Badon Hill, and Ragnarok!)

Other Details:
Every Participant will need to sign a waiver. If you are under 18, you will need to have a waiver notarized and signed by your parents. The standard Dagorhir Waiver can be used.

Been to Ides I thru III and I can say they've been freakin awesome. Best fighting I've ever had. Scenery is par none. Nightfighting and Casino Night in the barn is mindblowingly awesome. There's a reason kids drive 14+ hours for this event. If I could attend one event this year, it'd be Ides.

I'm going to work to convince our guys to come out.

Looking forward to seeing The Mug again!

I'm not sure what other places that this affects, but using the directions from Google Maps will add a turn from Columbus, Georgia. It will say to turn left at Lolly Bump Road. Ignore that last turn and just keep your eyes open. Columbus is south of Bowden, to give you guys an idea.

This is going to be an internationally attended event. A couple of Canadian Belegrim fighters are coming down for this. That means you should all feel bad for not coming out.

I purchased a jump rope. Now all I need is some sidwalk chalk. Fear me.

Thursday is going to be spot checking on the field by heralds and in the barn (night sparring). You never know how many people will be on site on Thursday evening, and they'll all arrive at scattered hours, so we want to be able to accommodate people who want to fight on Thursday but can't make a fixed 'weapons check' time.

Friday and Saturday will have normal morning weapons checks.

Thanks for asking!

I am relishing my epic levels of soreness. The people at this event made it one of the best I have attended to date. And the highlights were...

Boat battles- This was probably the first event where I actually had fun fighting in a boat.

Great Fighters- The Albion crew has some some serious skill. They were a lot of fun to fight

Enthusiastic Fighters- I'm not sure if I have ever sparred so many different people at an event. There were so many people out there working hard to improve themselves. You guys feed my fighting spirit with your enthusiasm to learn.

Res Battles- I love fighting res battles. You cant beat non stop hardcore fighting.

Barn Night Fighting- The main reason I am sore. Fighting all day and all night is a sure way to add epic to any event.

The Fire Show- Thanks to the Mithris and the others doing the fire show. You guys did a great job and I saw some stuff that I had never seen before. My favorite was the giant flaming ball on a rope.

Feast- Great feast that was on time and plenty of food. I ate to much.

Casino Night- I had a blast helping out with the Barbarian Pit. Blind dagger fights, battle chicken, the dice of fate, female 3 way dagger fight, and last but not least cougars and daggers. Bohdi did an awesome job running this.

High Spires- You guys make running an event look easy. I am very proud to be apart of such a great group of people. I look forward to getting to know you all better in the future.

The People- The positive spirit of everyone at the event made it what it was. Everyone was as nice as they could be on field and off. The people running Troll and Weapons check set the tone for the event by being friendly and helpful to all. It continued on the field with the heralds keeping the battles fast and furious and fun. All of you that came out to the event are awesome. All of you that had anything to do with running the event are awesome. This event gets my seal of approval.

I had a great time myself. Putting a face to a lot of the people here made the event worth while, even if the fighting hadn't had been as great as it was.

Good:
Troll and Weapons Check were quick and effecient.
Great fighting
Meeting some awesome guys
Great food
Hearing tales of Mollypop
Hanging out with Cu Sith

Bad:
Weather wasn't great
Mud
Water soaked red to the back of the head
Glaive to the face
Had some problems with people trying to call their shots during the second Gully Battle
