Greetings to all! I wanted to post a message here about a non-game specific LARP event that's being run at a small renaissance festival in Hillsboro, TX that may be of interest to you all.

Our LARP event is, schedule-wise, modeled after a civil war re-enactment. It focuses around two armies fighting over a magical item that each army thinks the other army has, and neither army has the item. It's being held at the site of the Middlefaire Renaissance festival, in Hillsboro, TX (an hour south of Dallas/Fort Worth) during it's Medieval and Fantasy Festival on the weekend of November 6, 2010.

Our first army is the primitive army. This consists of cultures such as barbarians, viking berserkers, orcs, etc. Most mythological creatures are also included in this. They are led by the Minotaur King, played by me, a viking berserker with the soul of the minotaur.

Our second army is the civilized army. This consists of cultures such as the Britons, Romans, Elves, etc. As of this email, they do not currently have a leader but we're hoping to get someone to play this role soon.

Registration for the event will be opening in the near future and will be less than $30 for basic pre-registration (as of this point in time), and that includes two nights of camping on site, a small snack-like dinner on Saturday (sausage on a stick and some cheese), and some administrative costs for running the event. It also includes free admission to a fantasy faire that we are holding at the site on the same weekend.

Each of the two armies will have their own camp areas, where we are more encouraging traditional looking camping gear. We will also have a modern tent camping are that will be an "out of character" zone because participants from both armies can camp there.

On Saturday, we will be running a football style LARP game throughout the day in our melee field. On Sunday afternoon, the events of the weekend will culmunate with a large battle on our melee field.

We are using a combat rule system similar to Belegarth. We are using two forms of armor points during the event, physical armor (for cultures that wore armor in battle) and natural (for cultures that did not wear armor into battle).

Our garb guidelines are more towards the stereotypes than being bistorically accurate. As long as "critical" areas are covered, we are letting almost anything go, and want more of the stereotype look (for example, my barbarian garb, which consists of a loincloth, undergarment and sometimes a vest, is very appropriate and perfect for a barbarian or viking berserker.) We will not stop anyone from dressing more historically accurate, however they must be aware that they should not harass another participant for not being dressed accurately. Our staff will reserve the right to have a participant adjust their garb (by adding something) if they deem it necessary.

Our objective will be to have at least 50 participants for each army, although we will be satisfied with 10 on each army. If the event is sucessful, we will be looking at enlarging it and making it it's own weekend.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me. For reference, the website of the festival where this LARP event is taking place at is http://www.middlefest.com/

Have a great day!
