Gates of Summer April 14-17 Holden, Mo

Postby duckymcfeelgood » Tue Mar 15, 2011 6:58 am

Hello boys and girls. Im going to do a little crossover promotion again and tell you all about a 400 person strong event.

http://www.dagorhir.com/forums/index.php?topic=20098.0

Its the same weekend as Spring Wars, so i totally understand why most of you will be busy instead. But if your close or can't make SpringWars, try going to Holden.

Sweet! I thought this was the 9th for some reason. RIGHT ON.

Hopfully it's not a mud pit like the last Gates I made it to. Even still, should be a good contingent from Tal Dagore!

We went to Gate about 8-9 years ago. We drove down, a 23+hour drive time, not including breaks for fuel and food, etc. We came down with two cars and about 8 people. The first day fighting was good, the people were OK. Then it rained that night. We stayed in a hotel about 30 mins from teh sight, except for one guy we brought who stayed on site. (we had newborn kids with us) The night life consisted of seperated camps, a modicum of drinking and the singing of disney songs around the campfire.

The next day, there was over 8" of water standing in the guys tent who stayed, the entire camping area was flooded out. THe field was like a sponge, it looked dry till you touched it. The second day of the event was cancelled entirely and we spent that day at our hotel sparring around.

The fighting and scenario battles were OK, the night life was lacking greatly, and the fact that they cancelled the second day instead of fighting through was a true disappointment. All in all I give this event a big thumbs down, sorry guys. Keep in mind my experience was 8 yrs ago or so and things may have changed there now.

It's usually rainy at Dom events, but that must have been the legendary "Flood Gates". I hear stories of it told.
Nowadays Mordor runs the good party where all the cool kids hang with small camps hanging out, like at any event. It's also a longer event now with more fighting!

Like I said, that was some time ago, and things may be very different now. If the Dark Angels are there, then it can't be too bad :)

Deamos from St.Louis? Yeah I think so.
I have zero idea about Locutus. I do know some Amt guys are coming though, so I'm pumped.

Depending on gas prices and such I'm looking to try and make it out, long drive compared to SW for me though. 6 hours vs 3 hours.

Deamos lives in St Louis? I was not aware. I thought he lived in mid-missouri. If he lives here i need to get ahold of him.

So this is looking like a HUGE Gates. I would be surprised if this didn't hit 500 people.
