The weirdest fighting style I saw was Kopa (sp?) with a Jav and flail.

This was out of place in foam smithing so I moved it to the Fighting Skill forum.

It's actually Kuba...and he's pretty effective with that style. He can control the range with the javelin and, if you decide to rush in, he can get you with the flail.

One of the most interesting styles I've seen is red sword and flail. The person uses the red sword tip down in the off-hand and a flail. If the person needs to break shields, he can immediately transition to using both hands on the red sword.

i've seen rache do that.

one of my favorite styles that i've started using poorly and that i've seen kato and a few other fighters use effectively is what vokor calls "zulu" or javelin and small round punch or strap bucker. it's not sure effective when not on a line but its pretty fun.

I have started fighting spear and gladius for fun (much harder to parry with a biddy spear than my biggie shield). I drop the tip to ground and can pop it up with my knee for some surprise shots, otherwise I parry against the able and stab against gimps.

Dagger + long sword is fun.

I like just having a dagger so now I can punch block with whats basically just a fist.

Plus daggers are just fun to kill somebody with when you're right in front of them.

I don't even recognize what some of these styles mean... what weapon is a pie? Mugentine is dual wielding something... what?

The craziest styles I've used effectively are:
-Holding 2 long blues together to form a makeshift quarterstaff in one hand, with a javelin in the other, (the jav was my offense, the "staff" was defensive.) I used the jav mostly as a spear, but I occasionally threw it and went back to normal florentine with the blues until I could pick up another jav.
-Dual wielding reds. I felt like a god beating 4 people at once with those... but my arms almost fell off after 30 min. I brought them together and broke shields, or just killed people from more than double their range, (I have long arms and was fighting short people at the time.)
-We tell all our spear-men to carry a short blue for when the enemy gets past their tip, not sure if that counts, it's usually held in the back hand on the spear.
-I've also used a hanging shield with a spear. It swings around a lot on your back or over your shoulder, but seems to work well.
-Some of our members go for the tactic of "stuff as many weapons as I can on my body" then throw them away throughout the battle to run away faster from opponents, pulling the next set out of their sheaths once the better fighter, but slower runner has given up the chase.

Ah! Thanks!

I've done red and strap shield, that works well, (although your arms wear out faster.) Punch shields would be too hard to use when you want to 2 hand to break someone else's shield though...

I've always seen punch and pie with a min red and a punch.

Breaking shields isn't everything :P.

No but it adds a whole new element to your fighting style when you can switch on the fly between a defensive player with a large shield and a shield breaker. The versatility is what I find so fun about it.

The point of using a punch shield, is that when you need to break something; you just throw your shield at it first.
