Peter spent time before that adjusting to being in a larger skill pool, so probably not.

More important than learning if people might or might not 'suck', SKBC provides a venue for people to learn the skills and techniques needed for further improvement. We have a pretty good program for all skill levels. 2005 was the last time we were able to hold the event on the West Coast and its hard to predict when we will be back.

I am very proud of how well we are integrating our Bel instructors into the event and I scincerely believe the learning opportunities for Bel fighters at this event are outstanding.

I think anyone in the California realms should make this event a priority.

Well, we're on track. Is it reliable? I mean really. I don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere in the winter.
How much gas money are we going to need to get to Fresno?
I think we should totaly do this Osric. How many people can we fit in it?
Are we camping or staying at a hotel?
How much are rooms? Can we get rides back and forth easy?
Anyone else from Utah in on this?
Lets make a plan of attack here people, we have an offer of trasport.

It's reliable. I've been to Vegas and back in it and up to Twin Falls, Idaho on more occasions than I can count, gets about 22mpg highway so it's thirsty which is the issue. As for camping/hotel, I'm unsure. If there's a site available near where the event is happening camping would be the way to go. I'm sure with gear(if we pack light) we can sit probably 4, maybe 5 easily. Split the gas bill that many ways and this is affordable for me. I know Eunuch wants to go. I'll see if I can get anybody else to come. My information is in the Uruk hai forums if you need to get in touch w/ me.

On site camping is included in the site fee and many students will be camping for the event. Some instructors will also be camping. Bringing enough gear to camp and fight on an airplane isnt easy so we negotiated some discount hotel space but there is no need to use it if you like to camp.

We have 5 guys already.
Whats the weather like? Over night temps? Is it likely to rain or snow? All this affects how much camping gear we gotta bring.

Naturally this happens the month after I move out of Cali. :(

I would highly recommend it though- I've fought with a bunch of the Southern California Dag, Amp and Bel people who are going to be there, and they are generally fun to hang out with and challenging to fight. Best of luck to those going!

Also- I saw a lot of bel guys being illegally physical with their shields when we were fighting under ampgard rules. SKBC prob won't care as much, but some of the fighters did.

Much of the practice fighting at SKBC will be under Amtgard rules, which means that Bel sheild contact will not be allowed. Initiating contact with the shield is illegal under the Amtgard rules set. Holding your shield in a place where your opponent cant move his shield the way he wants without initiating contact illegally is fine.

Some of the practice fighting at SKBC (in the evenings) will be under Bel rules and while most Amtgarders wont be great at controlling a fight with shield contact, many of them will be enthusiastic to try. At SKBC 2009, the Bel rules battles were more rough and tumble on average than the four large Bel events I have attended or my relgular realm practices.

Well, they have to break in those shields good and proper right? I'm really looking forward to this but I'll have to apologize in advance for any people I accidentally check with a shield :/ That'll be a tough habit to reign in.

Last year i was worried about that and planted quite a few guys. No one got angry they all just rolled with it and said its cool and that unless its a bele field i should try to not activily throw my shield into people.

Still though Clalibus in his whole buck 20 splendor decided to shield kick my * over. I was amazed and will forever love the man for that alone.

The learning and fighting format means thats not as many come as you might see at an event with a wider focus. Those who do come will all be very interested in fighting and getting better at fighting, though. We usually see about 120 (counting students and instructors).

Ya, think 2-3x the size of Western Wars with a fighting par ranging from equal to stronger minus the constant running into people full of haze and stupor.

Really, SKBC is nothing like Western Wars... but if Forkbeard & Company and some Babylonians all get down there together, perhaps we can enliven nightlife in the Western Belegarth spirit with evening classes such as "Crunk Fu," "Drunken Dodgeball," and "Wizard Staff." Yes, there are powerful wizards in our game too, and Moses is one of them. :wizzard:

Note to anyone coming from Bel though-- This event is all based around instructors delivering seminars during the daytime with tons of time to field fight as well. There will be no 'class battles' or 'wars' with magic bean bags thrown at you here. Many Bel fighters will be humbled and their perspective changed entirely about what Amtgard is all about; I was certainly one of them last year.

If you want to come from Bel, follow the link that Peter posted and get signed into classes! As Arnold would say, "DO IT NOW!"

Yah, I'd really tried to think of a way to point that out tactfully. This isn't a normal event. It's a lot more docile, with an emphasis on improving your game in a learning atmosphere.

Yes Bhakdar did a good job of explaing what I was trying to get at. SKBC tries to isolate one part of our organiztion, that is the actually foam fighting. To that point we cut out all the other parts. There are no fancy feasts just simple meals. There are no complex scenarios, only classes and simple ditch battles. To some extent this spreads into the night time activities as well. We intend to teach and practice intensively enough that many students will be too tired to party like rock stars at night. Classes start reasonably early and we always run on time. This isnt to say we dont want people to have fun, but is a matter of focus of the event. Also this year the Bel rules fighting will all be at night under the lights.

Note to belegarth:

Be aware that this is a pretty lowkey event nightlife/party wise. There will be people enjoying some drink here and there but it's more on par with a Melcorme night time then a Geddon sin night. It would be **** stellar if some of the wilder nighttime ninjas (you know who you are) could tone it back a notch if you plan on attending SKBC so as not to give Amtgarders the wrong impression of our awesome sport.

By all means, have a **** blast, just keep in mind how impacting first(ish) impressions are. Just look at how long it took amtgard to shed the "* tap fighters" stereotype.
