I have a question for you, and it's more of a personal question. You are clearly someone who has a great in depth understanding of foam sword fighting and are a pioneer of this predictable returns mindset. My question is this, even at such a high level of fighting knowledge and understanding, where you can read any given situation and know what's happening on every level, do you still favor certain things? Like certain openers, setups, lines of attack etc. I'm wondering if personal preference still plays a factor at such a high level, or if it is purely instinct and efficiency.

You hear that Pete, your a pioneer of the predictable returns mindset. Given the tendency of most right handed fighters to over extend or high cross, or throw flat outside leads . As a whole, you tend to play up leads or baits that trap off those openers / returns. Knowing peoples tendencies, makes it much easier to read and change outcomes.

That makes sense. I detect some sarcasm lol. I only say that because he's the guy I see teaching this stuff in videos and most people refer back to him when talking about this stuff. If it came from somewhere else, please correct me, I don't want to walk around with misinformation.

Everyone learns from someone else. Spyn taught Peter a lot, and they're good friends. Hence the sarcasm.

yea sorry i didn't see your post there ragefire. Of course you are going to have personal preferences that play into what you do. The things you find work for you are things you can build on, i mean as long as you work out a way to make them safe things to do.

Also with what spyn said, you can play on the high tendencies of the people and groups you fight against. part of what makes a good fighter great is the ability to know who you are fighting and what their tendencies are and how you can exploit them.

But yes Grandpa Spyn is the man who taught me. you can us either of us as a resource.

That definitely make sense. I love these videos. I've watched them and your others multiple times. I don't fight SnB or Flo, I use a min-red sword, but I find that this type of mentality translates 100% and even some of the hand positioning does with some tweaking.

All of the above is good advise but also remember that this is a freestyle sport, dont be aftaid to try new stuff and make your own style as well. This style itself would have never been made if the person who made it had instead used someone elses style. Not that anyone can own a style but you get what I meen. Who knows in a few years you may develope your own kickass style that the sports never seen before

That is a very good point Sir Rukus, I have a lot of myself in my fighting style and take influence and inspiration from many other people.

I used a lot of this in a tourney this weekend and as a result I did a lot better than I ever thought.
Mad props to PtQ and Dane for all their help over the years, they're always cool enough to take the time to talk to an overeager guy like me. All of their criticism has been super helpful.
Even more so, props to my fighting-friends who've been consistently sparring with me the past three years. Gustav, Delfino and Hrothgar are all some of the best fighters nonetheless people I've had the pleasure of sparring with.
It's funny that my bel-realm has more former amtgard vets then bel-vets. :p

I was raised by chefs for most of my life, nothing anyone says to me can come close to comparing to the abuse I've had hurled at me. Often literally hurled at me.
