This was the question for my inquiry. At the end, granted, the release should have been sooner, but better Dragun's head not land on hard wood.

My question is this. If he had not fallen, is it permissible to use that catch for a second at the sake of the arm to open a shot?

Your commenters have it right. The instant that a limb is hit by a strike, it is rendered dead. You could have used it to block a shot and then counter swung, but not to grab and hold. If they have haft padding or a long handle, you can feel free to grab those.
