Chaos has befallen the realm. Year after year, the guard and militia has tried to contain its underworld presence. Despite all their efforts, the threat has grown every year, compounded by a lawless, elite mercenary sector, rampant corruption among the guards, and senseless civil unrest. Last year, the law made a brave stand, but facing extreme odds, they could do little to stop the ordered killings. The situation, they decided, was hopeless; many political figures are already dead, completely corrupt, or on the run. The guard, fighting a progressively uphill battle, has disbanded. Criminals and mercenaries run unchecked. Thugs, shaky alliances, and money are the only law now.

In place of the assassins tournament this year, there will be a three-team competition to make the most money, eliminate the most resistance, and conquer the most territory. No guards, no marks, everyone is out to kill everyone not on their team. Team captains will direct their forces to take land from their enemies while clinging desperately to their seats of power, with one eye on the prize and the other on everyone else who wants it. Rival gang members will brawl in the streets whenever they meet, and roam around searching for and stealing game items, trying to prove their worth to their leaders and everyone else, waiting until the time is ripe to sieze power, giving orders and spending the groups accumulated wealth on mercenaries, fortifying their turf, bribes, alliances, and of course, keeping themselves firmly attached to the throne.
