So their are two courts.

Classics: 'VIII' = 8 They follow the rule of 4 meaning you stop adding I's when the number reference goes to 4 characters long (max of 3 i's).

Mathematician 'IIX' = 8 They follow the rule of the shortest way you can write it.

Who is right? The classics of course.
