this was talked about on general meyhem, a while back in sept.

the best dates for students and teachers, and rag goers, and chaos goers, and every other group that responded, is to have it..............

bo I have a suggestion for causes:

either something for spinal cord injury victims to help with things like wheelchairs, etc. or for lupus foundation. (yeah I know it is NEVER lupus!)

just a couple of my pet things. personal of course. the spinal cord injury stuff is really due to my brothers horrific injury. he is now quadriplegic (sp?)

Isn't geddon a self sustaining event?

I like the dekalb food bank idea..

Well you are patially correct, it is the evnet that pays for all the administration of the sport. It pays for the boards, website fees, and anything that the BOD deems worthy.

But if the event doesnt make money neither does the sport. We are taking steps to prevent this problem, Derian has done wonderful with the web ads. Money is oming in from the "belegarth Suporter Cards".

It takes about $7000to run a good geddon, the current balance of the account is in the neighbor hood of 3700

basic break down for the event is

3000- park cost, this is a reduced rate due to getting volunteers to help the park throughout the year. I tipically spend 3 to 5 weekends at the park just working each summer.

2000 sat feast. it is a big deal and typically we like to wag the dog for this feast.

1300 friday feast,

i am going to try and trim the feast by 500 next year so that should be fun.

500 for sin night, this years sin night was a good tim efor sure.

200 for incedentals and troll. paper, waviers, markers, propane, whatever comes up.

so that leaves us basically relying on preregs to come in so the event can pay as it goes. SHP has been wonderful at letting us put 1000 as a deposit and letting the event pay at the end. i would like to sport to have enough to pay for the whole event up front, also allows for a better event as planning can happen sooner.

saki- i agree with you, but as a non profit org it is good policy to help the communitee. The event has, of late, never lost money. I have no problem with donating an activity revenue to a local cherity, providing it is a worth while cherity, ie doesnt pay some exec's salary, but goes to the people in need. i like the idea of getting more money for the sport, but i think that is perhaps double deipping a bit. int he past we have had games at geddon go to charities, i like that we as a sport can help out just a bit.

FYI my brother is at a facility that is local in Sycamore IL Kindred Hospital. I am sure they could use all the help they can get. Also, I like the food pantry idea as these are struggling a lot lately. Local Red Cross facilities are struggling as well womens shelters too. United Way agencies. The list goes on and on. Salvation Army...yeah...
