Chaos 15 Classes

Postby Sir Par » Mon Dec 27, 2010 3:49 pm

I am planning on teaching my Realm Development and Fundraising class again this year.

I am also in the process of developing a Women's Sword & Board class. I'm adapting information and observations from The Armored Rose by Tobi Beck, and adapting it to fit Belegarth. It will for sure be ready by Chaos.

I think it would be a great idea for this class to be filmed, so that the female fighters who do not go to Chaos Wars can still have the opportunity to learn from it. I don't have the means to film it myself, but it would be a great asset to have documented, for all fighters, male and female alike.

...I also have a vested interest in having this filmed....so I could show it to my fake girlfriend. Unfortunately, she won't be able to go to Chaos Wars (mostly because she doesn't really exist), but i would still really love for her to be able to see it.

Is that the fake girlfriend from the bad larp forum pic? I am going to be investing in a Flip camera soon. I will have to film it after I've given it a few times and then put it up on the boards.

I know Kyrian and I were talking about wanting to do a Marshalling class at CW15. I know i badly want to host one as i think it would be very useful to a number of people. And i am willing to bet i might be able to bribe Cedric into giving me a hand.

I was thinking about teaching a weapons checking class on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I've also been considering some beginner classes also: Intro to basic shots & combos, basic footwork, basic shield work, archery, and tactics.

Last Chaos, I heard all the classes were good. I attended offensive shieldwork, small unit tactics, and realm building, and all three were useful. Personally I hope the marshalling and weapon checking classes become reality for next year.

Hey Par-

The woman's sword fighting class is an awesome idea. Would you mind throwing me your thoughts on who you plan on being teachers? Me, Gaia and Acorn also had a similar idea on throwing a female sword fighting class, so maybe we can join forces and make an awesome class. Also, Bhakdar was up for teaching some things for this class as well.

Thanks!

Absolutely Sipris! I'm currently working on an outline and putting together my high points. When Its semi-finished I'll PM it to you on Facebook and get your input. When its finished, it should be an easy enough class that anyone could replicate it. For the first go I thought I'd teach it, since you know, I'm putting it together :) After that though it should be easy enough for any competent teacher to teach it/modify it.

Par, if I you are interested I would love to do a "unit" or whatnot in the realm creation class - specifically for the creation of University/other community center realms. If there is not interest obviously then its not really applicable, but if there are people interested in doing a similar thing to what we in Oregon have done then I would love to share.

Thanks Rocca, thats something I cover in depth in the class. (Shannara and Rath have both been associated with the schools in the area) and I even cover/make available a sample of the BSU belegarth constitution that we wrote. I think it's the one I sent to Shino to help him out when he was trying to make that happen.

What I would really like either yours or Acorn's input on for the class is recruiting methods for attracting female fighters.

I'm sure we'd be glad to help but the primary thing is this: have at least one female fighter and make sure she's one of the one's talking to potential recruits. Also, a lot of guys when they come off of the field to answer questions direct their questions at the males - bad move.

our realm kinda lucks out as far as the female fighter thing goes too because of location. we get a lot of walk ons since we practice on campus, so i would also suggest practicing near your target audience if possible.

EDIT: Just re-read my post and it totally sounds like i'm suggesting stakeing out an all girls school. lol.

I'm going to run a Fighting Fit Class every morning and maybe in the evenings too if I have interest.
The Fighting Fit class will probably be some running and circuit type exercises. It'll be good stuff to get your body going before taking the field.

I know it will be in the morning so I think I'll get some sort of puke trophy that you can sign if you puke and finish my class.

But don't worry, this will be an all levels type of workout. Another goal for those interested in my class will be to learn some exercises that directly benefit boffer sword fighters. A lot of fighters don't take into consideration how rough this game can be on the body and ignore simple conditioning that would greatly help their wellbeing and improve their game.

It'll have a dash of science with it too! :wizzard:

It's not a class, and pretty much irrelevant to fighting, but if i'm able to make it to Chaos this year i'll be more than willing to teach people how to juggle. I learned about a year ago, and don't claim to be a master at it, but I did manage to teach my rediculously uncoordinated cousin.

The suggestion of having a female fighter talk to potential female recruits is a very good idea. I know at our practice, when a young lady comes up and wants to check it out, all the guys just want to check her out. Honestly we men are too * stupid to not act like idiots with our tongues dragging on the ground. Send a nice lady over to get them interested, don't let the boys near them till they've had a bit of info first.

Par could always wear a dress while teaching the class  that would be cute!

I love the ideas of all these classes!!! Will they be held during fighting or during fighting breaks?

I also suggest really organizing when classes will be held. Also not only posting them on the board but have someone announce very loudly (megaphone) that so and so class will begin in 10 min at such and such place. Not everyone is loitering troll to check the board every 15 mins...and not everyone is on the field. This is my main complaint from last year.

what if we had 4 boards? posted at troll, main fir, the rickety bridge and urk hai? then we wouldn't have to try and please everyone with mega phones. i know that that was tedious for the people announcing things last year. where as simply updating the boards every morning before say, 11:00 is totally doable and then it's up to people to be informed, rather than get hollered at.

(and seeing as how i'm in charge of the boards/flyers, this is a real suggestion.)

That's a good idea Acorn, as long as people are informed of it when they check in. I mean, it should be obvious but it doesn't hurt to make SURE that people are aware that that is the system.

That would be great Shino, since I got some extra responsibility. I will go over with you what I covered last year with the new peeps.

The extra boards are a great idea as long as they are updated...there were several times the board was not updated at troll last year and troll had no clue about classes. Bad communication.

well like i said, since i'm in charge of the boards i can guarantee they'll be updated. i'll probably have the afternoon schedule and the next morning schedule on there since CW time is like, 11:00am to 2:00am.

The more boards you have, the harder it is to make them all synch.

I offer a counter suggestion: one board, that everyone walks past that we guarantee will be current would be useful. Perhaps on one side of rickety bridge?
